Doesn't Amex realize it's a gift card purchase and not provide rewards or potentially claw them back later? I read somewhere else they get L3 card data. Are there some additional steps to doing it, for example add some $1 item to the purchase?
Also, could you buy a GC online and are there dp that it works?
Incidentally Costco demanded that I install their app and now my card no longer works!

Haven't ever had AMEX claw back a Lowe's offer over a physical GC purchase.
The problem with online GC purchases is that they're often fulfilled and charged by third parties.
