For most users the DCF 921 or 923 deals that have been on clearance at HD are a better fit, IMO.
Thanks for posting OP

For the dcf921 or 923, better goes with the 1/2 or 3/8 for the weekend dyi Auto mechanics? Thx

If this will be your first and only impact tool, I'd lean towards the 1/2" to adeptly handle the 400 ft lbs of torque that the 921 can do and get a set of impact sockets like the Harbor Freight 37-piece set which includes an adapter from 1/2 to 3/8 so you'll be covered for the smaller sizes. You could get an adapter in the opposite direction from 3/8 to 1/2 but that's not smart for high torque. This setup should cover just about 80-90% of any DIY car stuff. For more ease of access in tiny tiny spaces I'd get one of the impact ratchets (DCF510 I believe) that have the swappable 3/8 and 1/2 anvils. These "only" get about 70 ft lbs, but for small stuff that's way more than enough and the tiny size means you'll use it a ton. Then the 921 will have the grunt for tougher jobs, with only a handful of non-pro situations requiring more (Honda crankshaft bolt, rusty old truck suspension bolts, water heater anode rod, etc). At that point you'd have to decide based on your frequency of use, to just get a breaker bar and extension, a corded torque monster at HF for <80 bucks, or the Ryobi high torque model, or splurge on this beast here.

What if you're taking giant bolts off of the undercarriage of a trackhoe? You still think will be overkill? How about if you're trying to take the bolts off of a mining dump truck To get to the planetary gears... I'm just saying it's not more than anybody would need.
of course if you're going for really heavy duty work, you probably will be better off with an air powered impact but still...

What's really heavy duty? I'm working on a diesel and debating this one.
