I actually prefer this because you get a 2 year allstate warranty. If the batteries die in the buds (which they seem to inevitably do), you get a full refund within the 2 years. Whereas buying new only gets you 1 year. Did it with the XM4, plan to do the same with the XM5.
if you pay with venmo, there's a $5 off coupon which makes it $108.
As far as SecondPity goes, I've bought a couple of pairs of headphones from them over the years. They were like new.
