Tapo cameras, also from TP Link, are way better. They're more responsive, cheaper, better image quality, and you can share the cameras with another registered user. With Kasa, you have to give other people your account info. This is a huge issue if you want to share the cameras with grandparents or other trusted users. Got 2 of the 2K version of these and returned them for all the reasons above.

Not gonna use inside the house, but gonna try to enhance detection/activity when the garage door is left open, and plan to mount at eye level as best as possible to get non skewed images. Worth a try and I have the Kasa ecosystem for switches and outlets.
2K version in white is only $7 more when you clip the $5 coupon showing on my account. Not sure I really need another ecosystem for cameras but I might give this a try for situations where I really only need to see the live view (I'm assuming live viewing can be done without paying for their premium cloud storage).

I'm new to the indoor camera world. Is there a brand that records to a card you recommend? I'd love to be able to view live on app and recorded without a monthly fee.

I've been using Blink that has been recording to an sd card, it came with an inside box for the unit that I've got plugged into an outlet and then just an sd card inside of that
edit: looks like it's a Sync Module 2 that came with my blink outdoor 4

I use Tapo C120 camera. It $25 right now. 2K video and its color. Records locally (i only record when it detects activity but has continues recording). Only thing I don't like is that alerts do not contain a video or image unless I pay monthly fee. When it alerts I have to open app to view anything. Watch some YouTube videos to see the difference.

This one or Tapo. Kasa cameras have local SD card storage that you can access over Wifi. Tapo cameras are essentially the same as Kasa (owned by the same company) but you have to use the Tapo app to view/control them. The Tapo app is supposed to be compatible with Kasa cameras but not vice versa. I personally didn't have luck mitigating my Kasa cameras over to Tapo so I'm sticking with Kasa for the time being. Bonus if you use Kasa bulbs and outlets which I do. It's the only ecosystem I've seen that consistently has local SD storage with 24/7 recording without the need for a subscription to use it.
I have not yet used it yet, but I am considering trying it. Could you please provide information on the backup duration? Specifically, with a 512GB storage card, how many days of footage will be stored?

I've been using this camera for 3 years now. Great for the price. Important note if you want to use an SD Card for storage: it must be a "high endurance" micro SD card and not just any microSD card. Otherwise it will stop recording once storage runs out on the card.

Amcrest supports onvif/rtsp, so can be recorded from any NVR security system or even streamed to YouTube.
Tplink does not. You'll have to use their phone app or pull the memory card.
