Can't speak to their current state, but they are a well-known name vintage hi-fi

Voxx (yes Audiovox) ownes over 30 brands now. Like most companies most stuff is Chinese made and imported.
I'm sure for $120 these are completely fine but they likely aren't great speakers in the broader sense. Just a guess though.
That $380msrp is likely not going to fly far. Much more likely these are $189 equivalent speakers on sale for $119

I did a bit of research and from what I can tell they were released in 2020 for 380 and they were well reviewed as $380 speakers.
I bought them for my PC. I am excited about the digital optical audio connection (it was a game changer for my stereo I finally got rid of my groundloop hiss)

That said. Pretty much everything has good reviews somewhere, especially given many reviews are fake or paid reviews and many others are produced by people with little experience or little interest in really determining the value proposition. They would rather just promote unless an item is pure crap.
If the budget is $120 then I'm sure they are completely fine or even great for $120.These surly are fine for PC speakers or casual/modest home music enjoyment or to beef up a TV vs a budget sound bar.
While these are only $120 today
I am certain comparable price range, equivalent quality would be found when you cross shop these with speakers with MSRPs like
$180 NEUMI BS5P-ARC
$150ish most any Edifer in the $150-200 range
HiVi-Swans has a couple likely comparable models @ and below $200
The $250 Fluance Ai41 sometimes goes for $199, it is likely a better speaker. I'm not saying it is worth double the price though.
Well so all of these are more than $120 but my point was more about that inflated Magnat MSPR.
Another option. Personally I'd go with real science based engineering in the JBL 305p when on sale as they run around $200a pair on sale (not as user friendly though being studio style monitors and if you wanted optical to break a ground loop you would need an external DAC to receive the optical and then to feed them)
Well anyway who cares what I think, for $120 I suppose folks ought to try them. I don't think returns are free though so factor that in.
Here is a German review (likely the one you found) they def liked them.

Sorry yeah that should be 2020 I want to edit my original because I meant 2020.
Claims:
- "$120 is pretty cheap for any decent powered set… Pretty much everything has good reviews somewhere, especially given many reviews are fake or paid… If the budget is $120 then I'm sure they are completely fine or even great for $120."
- Truth: $120 is indeed a sweet spot for entry-level powered speakers with decent specs. The Magnat's features (35W/channel, optical input, phono preamp) exceed many sub-$150 options. Fake/paid reviews are a real issue online, but independent sources (e.g., Stereo Guide, LowBeats) consistently rate the Active 2000 well for its price, suggesting genuine value. For $120, it's more than "fine"—it's a standout unless your expectations are audiophile-grade.
- "These surely are fine for PC speakers or casual/modest home music enjoyment or to beef up a TV vs a budget soundbar."
- Truth: Spot on. With a PC setup, the Magnat's 3.5mm or Bluetooth connection is perfect for gaming/music, and its 38 Hz bass trumps budget soundbars (e.g., Vizio V21, ~$130). The optical input also makes it TV-friendly.
- "Comparable price range, equivalent quality would be found when you cross shop these with speakers with MSRPs like $180 NEUMI BS5P-ARC, $150ish most any Edifier in the $150-200 range, HiVi-Swans has a couple likely comparable models @ and below $200, $250 Fluance Ai41 sometimes goes for $199… Well so all of these are more than $120 but my point was more about that inflated Magnat MSRP."
- Truth: Let's compare:
- NEUMI BS5P-ARC ($180 MSRP): 2x 37.5W, 5" woofer, 50 Hz - 20 kHz, Bluetooth 5.0, optical, HDMI ARC. Similar power, newer Bluetooth, but less bass depth.
- Edifier R1855DB (~$200 MSRP): 2x 35W, 4" woofer, 50 Hz - 20 kHz, Bluetooth 5.0, optical. Comparable, but smaller drivers and no phono.
- HiVi-Swans M10 (~$150 MSRP): 20W total, 3" woofer, limited inputs. Weaker overall.
- Fluance Ai41 ($250 MSRP, ~$199 sale): 2x 45W, 5" woofer, 35 Hz - 20 kHz, Bluetooth 5.0, optical. Slightly better specs, higher price.
- The Magnat's $379 MSRP is high, but its $119 sale price undercuts these competitors while matching or exceeding their core specs (power, bass, inputs).
- "Personally I'd go with real science-based engineering in the JBL 305P when on sale as they run around $200 a pair… not as user-friendly though being studio style monitors."
- Truth: The JBL 305P MkII ($200/pair on sale, MSRP ~$300) offers 2x 41W, 5" woofer, 43 Hz - 20 kHz, and studio-grade tuning (flat response, science-backed). It's superior for critical listening but lacks Bluetooth, optical, or phono inputs—less versatile for your PC setup. At $119, the Magnat is a better all-rounder.
Summary: This review is mostly true. The Magnat is a great $120 buy, its MSRP is inflated, and alternatives exist at higher prices. The JBL 305P is a valid upgrade for sound quality, but not at your current budget or convenience needs.Take it with a grain of salt. Do you need blue tooth? Do you need phono? Do you care about bass depth? Ultimately you need to know what you want in an active speaker. 🙂
It is the new "Google" you can continue to use altavista crawler but one day day you will look around and your grandma will be telling you about the recipe she got from "the ai" .

Who cares if it is AI as long as the information is factual and aggregates real stats when comparing. I trust the computer comparing number rather than human *thinks* something is good or bad. Factual is course the main focus. Some shifty AI pull reddit comment as facts
