$1000 cash back less:
- $95 annual fee
- $50-100 opportunity cost for spending $5000 on a card that only gives 1%cb when you could have gotten 2-3%cb.
Still over $800 tax-free profit. Not bad at all.
Considering it. I have one more application before I hit chase 5/24, then wait for a boosted amex gold or platinum bonus.
Any 0% apr period on this?
Will they treat a tax payment at pay1040 as a cash advance? Most credit card vendors treat it as a purchase.
The offer is supposed to be available online starting 04/03.
Nope- you can only have 1 sapphire (of any type) open at once, and can't get a sapphire bonus at all if you received one in the last 48 months.
Current referral links are still only offering 60k--- rumors on reddit that 100k referrals for individuals will be live next week (8th was what I read)

Why are you waiting for the referral link? My understanding is the referrer will earn some points and he/she might be willing to send you some money, for example, $50.
Besides the above, what are the benefits of using the referral link? Will using the referral link increase the probability of getting approved of your application?
You can earn up to 100,000 bonus points per year by referring friends with each approved friend earning you 10,000 bonus points.
I was pretty sure about that restriction on the Sapphire card. Not sure why they've given me so many INK cards with bonuses over the past few years. Some of them are different (business vs cash) but some are the same afaict. Working on the spend requirement on one now with a $750 bonus and no annual fee.

Any idea how much gap do you need between downgrading a sapphire and being eligible for a bonus?
I signed up through the link (the 100k bonus was advertised on the landing page) and got approved. Can I track my progress towards the 100k sign up bonus? I thought there would be a tracker in my account, but I don't see anything about the 100k points.
Can you upgrade it immediately after receiving bonus points?
No I don't think so, there is some law in place so CC companies can't charge/change annual fees until after the first year has passed. You will likely have to wait the full year before Chase would allow you to upgrade.
Interesting, so if I plan on redeeming points for travel within 1 year then this Preferred offer seems to be the better deal, right?
Preferred = 100 K points at 25% bonus = $1250 of travel credit
Sapphire = 60K at 50% bonus = $900 of travel credit
There's obviously other differences in the cards, but for the sake of argument let's say the $300 extra in annual fees on the Sapphire evens those out
Yes the extra points makes it worth it to get the CSP and upgrade to CSR after 1 year.
If you need to use the points before the upgrade, you're still ahead.

All in all it was pretty hassle free.
Good info on the referral rate!

I would say once your Chase account has updated to show you no longer have the sapphire card you should be good.
You can then choose to search for hotels, flights, etc.
Similar to sites like expedia.

I opened the card in 2021, but not sure when the bonus came in.
