Very tempting, but I had to pass on this one. Reviews of the Kreg deck screws on Amazon and Home Depot note poor grabbing strength, head size inconsistencies that complicate use with the jig, KTX drive that is prone to stripping, and screw breakage after seasonal temperature changes. Kudos to johnpkelly81 for the post, but I think these are on clearance for a reason.

The spacers provided are nice, and the kit works well overall. Used it on two decks so far, and the jig/holder/whatever works well for keeping screws uniform. They've held up for two years in midwestern heat and snow. Just make sure you've got it set up for the right decking being utilized.
I maybe had a few screws with weird heads but that's any manufacturer nowadays when you're talking hundreds of screws?
I think I bought my jigs on clearance at Menards for $40 back in 2020ish, so $50 with the provided screws is nice.

The $220 MSRP is laughable. $5.95 shipping unless you spend $99+ (if you want two are go in halves with someone else, you're set).

Good to know! Mind if I ask if you installed composite or pressure treated decking? I'm in the northeast myself, and got most concerned when I read some people report shearing problems after a few seasons.

Looks like you can get the jig for about $30-$35 on eBay, and the screw about $30-$35 on there as well…. So I'd more compare for $90—$115, which means it's still about a 50% savings. This kits are pricey, take it from a guy who just did his deck. I paid $200 for the hidden screws

I used these on my deck. Got the jig for like 10 bucks at Lowe's and boxes of screws for 15. I would never do it again for two reasons. First being the time it takes to install is not worth it. Secondly, because of where they screw in, there isn't much grip for the screws if the boards decided to cup or warp. Not a huge amount of holding power so they make a bunch of noise.

I bought the camo screws and screw setter tool so far so good I live in the northeast. I built the deck five years ago and it's still going strong. No problem with school breakage I use composite decking.

I like Kreg systems (haven't tried this one) but hate having to use their branded screws. Limited sizes and finishes, and the stainless ones love to strip. If there were screw alternatives, I'd consider it.

I guess with this, you could always add additional screws the regular way, if things start to cup...

Exactly my thoughts before seeing your comment. This is probably why its so cheap.

This might be better for those composite deck boards vs wood. But i think they usually have their own fastener system.

I definitely wouldn't say the msrp is laughable. Screws are expensive, even if the consensus is that these screws (with this system) are ineffective. Comparable screws are $75-$100 a box and this has two. The msrp is right.

That doesnt make the msrp "laughable". The market is deciding they're worth that right now, but the amazon price has hovered at $50/box for years and $75 direct from them. Its really not that far off. But this is besides the point of what MSRP even means. If you're buying 50 pounds of deck screws and a specialize jig at retail, $200 isnt outrageous.

That said, thanks for posting the screws, as $25/box delivered from amazon is a good deal.
