I have both arc and arc ultra there is no difference in listening experience.
Sonos subs are pretty damned good, but I found the sub mini gives just enough punch for most rooms. You'll want the full sized sub if you're in a large room or have an open floorplan.

The subs are expensive because they're 1/2 Sonos networking components and 1/2 huge driver. Regular subs don't have to deal with the networking stuff. Being able to plug the thing in anywhere without having to run wiring is the selling point.

That being said, there is a hack for a DIY Sonos sub- get a IKEA SYMFONISK speaker for $120 or less, wire your existing generic subwoofer to the speaker in it, and you'll have some extra rumble added to your Sonos setup. Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiPPPu7j5DM

They are being discontinued, with the Arc Ultra as its successor.

Lmao now that's some honesty right there

I've read some hyperbolic comments on SD that say the ultra is so above and beyond the old Arc that you don't even need a subwoofer and the old Arc is trash

Thanks, will wait for further price reduction. If it sells out, I'll just consider something else

I have the Sonos Arc, two ones for surround and two subs. Should I upgrade ? I feel like if I change the soundbar then I'd want to replace the surrounds or vice versa.

They keep dropping the price slowly to clear stock. Funny thing is, as the Arc is discontinued, the $79 Wall Mount Voucher will work for Arc Ultra wall mount instead.
Just something to note in case you want to wall mount the arc.

Something else to consider, I had bought the Sonos Beam package that was similar to this and sold the wall mount on eBay to recoup a little money because our Beam sits on top of the fireplace mantle.

Surprised there is not more love for this. I paid $519 for refurbished, no Apple gift card, no mount.

Despite the app issues, if you primarily plan to use an Arc for TV audio (as the intended design of this), the app issues have never caused this to not work with HDMI arc sourced audio.

Yes, you'd want to stand pat. If you would've upgrade the rears, you'd wanna upgrade the sound bar, and vice versa. I think I've heard that the upgrade is 20 to 25% better. So probably not worth a $2000 upgrade.

Why in God's name is the sub so expensive? For those that have it paired with this, is it somehow worth it?

Appreciate the follow up! What'd be a "good" price to lookout for? 🍻

Is this really worth it over beam Gen 2? Other than a bit more power

Yeah, you have to have the right TV, media source, and room setup for the Ultra to really shine, but the Ultra isn't really worth the few $100 premium over the plain Arc. They're both top-tier soundbars, but the Arc will blow most listeners away just as well as the Ultra.
