The easy way to spot this is the logo...1 figure holding the axe/pike=China. 2 figures standing side by side=German
Can't go wrong with these.
I would invest in a whetstone and get gud at sharpening. I made a pos Kiwi knife sharp, my mother-in-law gave me a crappy knife to hack coconuts and I restored it to razor sharp. Learning how to sharpen a kitchen knife is more important than throwing money at a premium knife

Total knife noob in the kitchen and like a nice step up from what I currently have .. I have one of those cheap 12 piece knife sets . Anyone have any suggestions for a great knife set under $200 ?? Or should one just get the BEST knife for the price and forget the sets

When we needed a new knife set we bought a Henckels block set on sale at Ross. My understanding is that the Henckels is the low end Zwilling brand. We love them. They are still sharp and my husband washes them in the dishwasher (though I understand that is a no no) but no rust or anything. I'm by no means a professional chef, thus I didn't want to spend a fortune on the high end knives so personally I am happy with these. I guess in the end it just depends on your needs.

This or Vitorinox fibrox are the best everyman knives. There are better but for the price of fibrox or this one (on sale AND forged) can't be beat imho

I beg to differ.
Henckels produces incredible knives, and they make terrible knives.
The easiest way to tell the difference is in the price.
With these knives running around 13 bucks a piece, you aren't getting the good ones.
These particular knives are not hand made in Germany, and are instead mass produced in China- with much cheaper materials.
In my experience, I've had four total cheap Henckel knives that have all had the plastic handles break or crack within the first year.

Having said that, these handles look annoying and I'm not a fan of this kind of curved edge on a santoku. I'd rather have one knife that's more comfortable and easy to use for around the same price.
Zwilling means "twins" in German, so look for the twin logo—that's their top-tier line.
