I've bought this before, along with several other Augason Farms cans. I think it has a decent place as a cooking or sauce supplement if you want something shelf stable, but it is by no means a replacement for butter. It really can't be browned in the same way, so I wouldn't consider trying to use it to saute anything even if mixed with water or oil. Mixed into sauces, soups, and even some baked goods, it can be tasty enough. You can absolutely spread this on bread, of course, and for some, the novelty of powdered butter can be enough of a fun time to get some use out of it.

I have yet to try it in recipes like a macaroni and cheese, but I think it might be useful there as well. If you're curious, try it, along with anything Augason ever puts on sale. Their bean burger and peanut butter products are really nice, as is their powdered cheese and any of their soup mixes that I've tried.

I've gone through one 36 oz can and now into the 2nd can. I bought it mainly for use on popcorn because I hate soggy popcorn and this powdered butter allows the popcorn to remain crisp and crunchy, while giving it a moderate butter flavor.

I haven't used it yet in any liquidy cooked items (sauces, etc) but don't ever try to use it dry in a skillet, as it does not melt but instead instantly burns into a brown/black dark mess, tho it's easy to scrape off (on cast iron cookware, anyway).

Good price, however I find the taste and texture foul. Had to throw it out. VMMV depending on your taste. A couple of people have said they liked it.

Would this be a good substitute for adding butter to popcorn?

Also the price I see is $24.42. Did the price increase?
