FYI: This seems to have soldered RAM. Otherwise, seems to be a decent daily driver for meeting very basic compute needs.

Nope. But you'll want to get it out of S mode by doing the following:

To switch out of S mode in Windows, go to Settings > System > Activation, click "Go to the Store" under "Switch to Windows 11 Pro", then select "Get" on the "Switch out of S mode" page in the Microsoft Store.

I own this computer, from last year when target blew them out brand new for $150.

It's been running 24/7 since I got it, and I always have like 30 tabs open in my browser, in addition to playing an old school MMORPG (Asheron's Call) emulator, on two accounts also running 24/7 in the background.

Easily the best $150 I've spent in years. That being said, I do wish I could upgrade the ram, but it is soldered— not a possibility. If I knew then what I know now, I'd pay $200 for this laptop. I wouldn't spent msrp of like 400-500 on it, but it's easily worth the $150 I paid, or the $200 here.

That in mind— this is a refurb. So… something something grain of salt.

Quick Google search produces the following:

"Windows in S mode is a streamlined version of Windows designed for security and performance, restricting users to installing apps solely from the Microsoft Store and using Microsoft Edge for browsing".

Does this actually have a touchscreen? Several Amazon reviews say it does not. Thanks.

I'm sure you can get something better if you search around ebay unless you really need a 2-1 tablet like device but this thing is just too limited with a mere 8gb for proper modern browsing.

Where are you getting the opposite of that for $200? Sign me up for a dozen....

Think of it like Windows Lite or a dumbed down version of Windows that is a little easier for PC's with modest hardware. You can always turn off Windows S mode if you don't like it but....you can't go back to S mode for some reason. (Factory Reset/Recovery).

What would be the point of a 2-in-1 without the tablet mode / touch screen

Now, I could see some of these refurbs being setup without someone making sure that Windows detected the touch screen and thus loading the correct drivers to enable touch. But yes the unit does have a touch screen.

Also can't speak for the Acer but I had a Lenovo which had a button which turned off the touch screen...which was very easy to hit by mistake (now my current one has a key to turn off the touchPAD). Perhaps a few users did that without realizing? I've known a few people who thought their wifi was broken the same way when they turned on airplane mode by fatfingering the key.

I got the Acer 5 spin 16gb ram for my son for school and I feel like it's overkill for that purpose .For basic usage, this Acer 3 spin would have been a better value, although the 8gb ram would render this useless in a few years, I believe.

You think gaming is the only thing people buy laptops or something?
