Harbor freight has the Pittsburgh ones for $4. Anyone use/like those? Are these worth the markup?

The ones with convertible snap ring pliers are usually not very stable and bend to the side, are the ones from Irwin any better? Otherwise it makes sense to invest in four separate fixed snap ring pliers.

I've purchased those from Harbor Freight about a month ago.
They worked for what I needed them for: removing snap rings from Craftsman ratchet to clean and lube inside.
I can't comment on durability or life of product, but they work.
Personally, I'd purchase Irwin over Harbor Freight but that's just me.

Yes even a cheapo generic Chinese brand fixed set is going to work so much better than these. I have both.

these are what i'd consider light duty

tried to use them on a barbell sleeve to maintain my gym equipment and it instantly snapped and failed

at the time they had a no return policy, fortunately did get a refund. bought $30 Channel lock from home depot to maintain my gym equipment

I had to buy the Irwin ones to use in a pinch for my equipment, and while they worked, they sorta sucked. The Channel Lock ones are 100x better.

DO NOT buy this for removing a snap ring off a wheel bearing. It's way too small and weak.

It's convertible so it works with both external and internal snap rings, but the whole thing is kind of sloppy, hard to work with, and you may have difficulty holding onto the rings due to flex in the stamped steel parts and movement in the joints. If you do a lot of this sort of thing, I'd highly recommend springing for a real set of snap ring pliers rather than this jack-of-all master-of-none version.
