I bought this from Costco the previous time this deal was active. Used it for a half dozen rounds or so.
I haven't used a Garmin so I can't compare but the watch functions work well. Automatic distance to greens, has an overview of the hole and hazards, touchscreen so you can touch and see distances to any spot on the course. Whatever spot you touch the watch show distance to that spot as well as distance remaining to the green.
The gps shot tracking feature is handy, after a shot when you start walking the watch will start tracking yardage from where your last shot was, so you can walk your average carry distance and know that would be around where the ball would have landed. The round that gets uploaded to the app after the round will track your shots locations and the distances automatically, though there's no option for club selection. If you hit multiple shots or balls it can mess with this tracking obviously. The images are blocky like MS paint images. It's not nearly as nice looking as other apps that do this like 18 birdies.
It will recognize which hole you're on and adjust. At my home course sometimes in winter you play mixed 18 holes from two different courses and it'll show the correct holes on the course but the scorekeeping may not match up because the hole pars might not match up to the course holes.
It's easy to track scores and track distances without having to pull out a phone or pen and paper. Usually when you leave the green and approach the next teeing area it'll ask you to input your scores. (Penalties, swings, and putts). You can adjust scores anytime but it's a bit finicky with the menu. The UI is not great but is manageable. Lack of buttons is actually a plus so you don't accidentally press anything. The right button really only unlocks the watch or hold it down if you need to end a round early.
It doesn't do partial rounds. If you only play 9 holes or even less it'll fill out pars for the other 9. So not super great for scorekeeping. I haven't messed around with this too much so I don't know if this can be adjusted.
The app is fine for basic stat tracking but is nothing fancy.
Out of the box you have to plug it into a computer and update the firmware from the website. It will not work properly until the upgrade is done.
I like that I can see the distances at a glance without having to pull out another tool. Note that it puts the pin in the middle of the green and gives front of green and pin distance, you can touch the green where the pin is to get a more accurate estimate but it's always going to be a bit of an eyeball estimate. so if the pin location and specific yardage is important you'll still want to use a rangefinder. It has a slope mode which can be turned off.
It takes sometimes 5-10 minutes to find a gps signal but once it's going I haven't had any issues. So you'll want to start golf mode well before you get to the first tee.
It has a tempo mode which I don't personally really use but you also can't seem to turn it off during a round. It vibrates a bit after every shot and shows your tempo. So you have to fiddle with it to get back to the course. Tempo mode let's you practice and itll vibrate and show your tempo with every swing. Probably handy if you're disciplined about timing and tempo training.
My biggest complaint is build quality. Its very light and feels plasticy and not like a premium product. The display resolution is not great but it's functional. Strap quality is fine but it's easily swapped out for any standard watch band.
The time display options are very limited and most are imo ugly. It doesn't have a timer or stopwatch or anything else. It does track steps. It's really only useful for golf and not a functional watch for any other purpose.
Battery life is more than enough for one round and likely enough for 2 full rounds. The charger is standard USB and proprietary and magnetic on the back. So if you have cats or anything keep them away from the charger cable or you'll need to get a replacement.

I have this watch from the 150$ deal as well. The 9 hole parring the back 9 kind of sucks, but i usually golf with someone keeping score on a card anyways. The power button is located in an unfortunate spot. If you wear it on your left wrist and bend your hand alot (like hand on your hip) it will long press and shut itself off.
With those 2 things mentioned, this thing rocks for 150$. The fact that you can do gps and not connect it to your phone is great. I dont use the app at all. Playing 18 is great to keep score with and the range finder with slope/plays like seems to be pretty accurate.
Golf Watches are a bit gimmicky in my opinion. I use to use my Galaxy watch when golfing. I stopped using it after a while and just use my phone. You can get all the same features on most apps for free or for a small subscription fee. I use Golf Pad and it does everything this watch does.

I sort of agree, but for well rounded watches that also do golf well, it's a game changer. I haven't used the rangefinder since.
And my watch has auto tracking so I don't need to enter strokes, the watch detects it automatically. I enter the # of putts at the end and move onto the next hole. It's great.

trying to unlock my phone every time i want to get a distance or put in my score is irritating and honestly slows me down.
if I'm wearing sunglasses, it won't face unlock, so i have to use a code.
it's all a lot more cumbersome to do while walking, or riding or even driving the cart.
also, it absolutely kills my battery life on my phone.
