Spend the 50 extra for the AOC 2K mini LED. The 575 dimming zones slap any basic LED backlit monitor, although, they are coming out with a new model with over 1000 dimming zones so that should be significantly improved for better blacks

I tried the AOC one and was not impressed. I must have gotten a dud. So I went with a Dell and that worked so much better for me. I am happy with that one.

I got one from Dell Outlet for $160 (still available). Been using it for a week for work in SDR. Been very happy with it.

I haven't used the AOC mini LED. But they are not comparable because the price difference is quite large when measured in percentage.

With 27" 4k monitors being <= $200 now, why are folks still getting lower res ones? Is it mostly gamers looking for higher refresh rates, lower response times and brighter screens?

I just got a new 27" 4k, the MSI MP273U, for $170, on Amazon, but for productivity and media viewing, not gaming or photo/video editing or graphics design and such, so I'm just curious.

I assume that most gamers are still getting 1080p & 1440 monitors since most video cards can't do 4k games well enough to be worth it so they'd rather spend their money on these other things, and photo/video/graphics pros get 4k-8k monitors, but far more expensive ones with OLED and such.

There is a recent crash in monitor prices. Likely due to Chinese competition in the lower segment. (No name brand 1440p on Amazon go for $100) When the lower segment is flooded with cheap products, everyone has to sell cheaper to compete.
The crash in prices may or may not last. We had SSDs that were cheaper a year and a half ago (980 pro for $100). Now it is 50% more expensive.

That's a pretty basic 4k monitor. No color specs advertised, no calibration mentioned, 60Hz refresh rate, no height adjustable stand. All of these things cut costs, and a 4k monitor without all of that cost cutting is more like $400-500. 1440p is cheaper to get these other features in addition to being easier on the graphics cards like you mentioned.

  • I want my gaming and productivity to be at the monitor's native resolution without messing around with scaling.
  • My daily driver is a laptop, so my GPU is already at a disadvantage for gaming.
  • My eyesight isn't great, so 2k is a happy medium.

I work with 3x 27" 1440p monitors. I could never go back to 1080, I can fit so much more information on my screen.
