Correction, it is 120 W/Ch (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.08% THD, 2-ch driven, FTC), not 20W

This is a great receiver. Dirac is so much better than the standard Onkyo room correction. I love mine.
Upgraded to this mostly because I got a second sub. Disappointed to find out after that they are not two separate sub controllers, just two outputs for the same signal. That's on me for not researching better, but just fyi.

Just a heads up the component input only supports Max 480i instead of 1080 like years past. This means if you want to use old consoles you will be limited to 480i. Xbox original supported 1080i, ps2 supported 480p, Wii supported 480p, xbox 360 component supported 1080i. They might as well just remove the whole input from the back if they are going to make it worthless. Denon has same problem
Thanks for the heads up. You saved me $750 plus tax. Does the Integra for $579 have the same issue since it is technically the same company? I just looked it up and the integra doesn't do 480p too. Oh well as i know it would still look bad with modern tvs.

Would this be a decent upgrade from denon x3400h

Unlikely. This has a bit more power, but if you've never felt your Denon was unable to get loud enough, it's not an issue. I didn't double check, but I assume this will also do better for 4K gaming with a higher refresh rate. This also comes with DIRAC for better audio setup, but YMMV as far as what, if any, real world improvement you hear.

Agreed, definitely disappointing. Personally, I would put that money towards a MiniDSP and learn REW and MSO for that price.

Another suggestion if you didn't need the extra two channels is the RZ30 for $50 more($799).
DLBC would be the same cost of miniDSP + mic, no learning and better/easier results.

Valid option if you know you won't add a second sub. I wouldn't necessarily go so far as to say better results assuming you do a decent job, but certainly similar with no learning curve.

Maybe if you needed the extra channels.
The 15 extra might be advantageous also but the pre outs solves that.

The included Dirac was an advantage also but the advent of A1EVO(which you have access to) pretty much negates it especially since you don't lose subwoofer correction/integration.

I have owned this unit for more than a year....Outstanding for the price

I suggest you look at the AVS forum thread of people who have owned this unit since it was released in 2021. There are literally hundreds of owners who seem very satisfied.

The Onkyo RZ50 replaced a Marantz 7015 for me and to my ears was a sonic upgrade.

My RZ50 runs a system in mid sized room with bookshelf speakers

Compared to Audyssey in the Marantz 7015 this unit was a very nice sonic improvement with Dirac

You might look into the RZ30, I believe that might support it.

Nice knowing it's an option especially since you have the option to DLBC.
People often say this for things like preouts or more processing channels.

Having calibrated for years I say better because of the how good the correction/integration between subwoofer(s), individual loudspeakers & environment.
It does this with such ease and adjustments!
Not to mention the flexibility with placement.

Doing this manually is not an easy endeavor especially with multiple subs!

Personally this is why you go with Dirac, there is a reason they do not include Bass Control, it's a paid option.

Out of curiosity, why? I've been thinking about going the way of an X3800 for a future 7.1.4 or 7.2.4 setup.

Why not sell it, you'll easily make most your money back.
You then just buy this, pretty simple remedy.

No it doesn't just 480i like the rest. That is fine as i can just play my PS2 games on my Backward compatible PS3 though HDMI instead of getting a PS2 to play them.

Doh. I just bought the Integra DRX 3.4 last week. I'd have paid $200 more for the extra channels. 😢

Lookin at this or the denon 3800 any need to spend the extra? Knowing t some point will need to ad the sub Sw.
The Denon can do multi channel DSD while the Onkyo does 2 channel DSD via HDMI which is a very niche category. A good place to compare different specs is Crutchfield.
