Yes, WiFi 7 clients are not even widely deployed... and a WiFi 7 Client is backward compatible.

Yes, because in real world wifi 7 does not show gains because your device doesn't use the "7" or other reasons. On paper it looks to be great. Just get the best AX xxxx model in your budget. The higher the xxxx the better. I prefer ASUS for reliability. Read reviews because some routers are unstable and overheat. It's more than I can relate but they have advances that means faster speeds if your device is also modern. The strongest signal is second most important. A mesh network helps there but sacrifices some speed by needing to do the relay communication instead of direct to one router. I like this guy's reviews on real performance. I got an ASUS ROG for a couple hundred and other routers he reviewed. https://dongknows.com/wi-fi-range...s-reality/

trying to find the wifi 6 reasonable price reviews. I think above link can get you there. If your budget only allows this SD of only $60 I'm not saying it's a bad deal. I you want twice the speed and more future proof and your budget allows $140 I just went with one of these https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus...toreId=528 For those of you that don't know, when you buy some advertised speed from your cable company it all depends on your wifi router what you will actually get. I can be MUCH lower with a cheap wifi router. For those that aren't tech saavy just rent theirs for the $10 a month and it will be of good enough quality to be stable and deliver reasonable strong signals as long as you aren't reaching far bedrooms or outside security cams, then it gets iffy and you might need better wifi router.

Depends on your budget and how long you plan to keep a router for. As of right now wifi 7 clients are not very common at all and probably wont be for another year. There are benefits with wifi 7 but if your going to be primarily using wifi 6 devices, it wont matter much. This router is entry level but should handle between 20-30 devices with a couple of them being network hungry (gaming and 4k streaming) and the rest basic (1080 streaming and normal surfing/email/IoT) use without a problem. Internet speeds around 500megs is probably where you want to be at, you wont get full usage out of 1gig over wireless.

This router has been cheaper before but we dont have time machines, and it has reviewed very well after they updated the housing/casing because the previous model of it would tend to overheat due to little ventilation.

After taking a closer look this seems to be the older model with the full hard plastic casing so it can overheat if kept in a low airflow area word of caution. Look for the AX21 1800 if you want the updated version.

This is a good reply if you have big speed/capacity service or needs.

I found this model pretty solid; I had one for years. I just upgraded to the same line but the AX3000 as I have 2.1 Gb service now. I also agree with the ASUS products generally being better, though you really have to think of your use case. I DO use the extra speed in my 2.1 Gb service, but I don't have many devices in use simultaneously and many of my devices are wired, so this budget router was the Golldilocks product for me.

I agree with TealThread549 generally, though if you're one of the many folks out there with 300 Mbps, 500, or 1 Gig service that are totally happy with that, this is a good router at a good price.

And yeah, forget about wifi 7

Is there a way to hook 2 of these up in "Mesh" Mode?

Just noticed this is the older version with the full hard plastic casing, this can overheat if you dont keep it in a well ventilated area.

This is the updated model with the fixed overheat issue.

No, they dont have a mesh protocol in-between routers on these entry level products. It supports the mesh with extenders only, called One Mesh.

I'm also looking for a router. You have any thoughts of this versus the R6700AX?

It's about $35 used on Amazon.

Nope, over blown rumors, with no actual ground to stand on any longer since TP-Link global parent company is now based out of California....

Only credible review I found on that model shows its fine for most people but suffers from latency issues so not good for gaming or real-time applications like video/voice chat. If you are okay with used plenty of better options on amazon, but most really good ones are around the $70 mark.

Would you say the Walmart one is on par or better with any of these?

No, all the ones I listed are better. Also I have a hard time recommending the walmart one knowing its the older version which is known to overheat.

Unless you need one this very moment, just wait on the next $50 router deal we have had plenty of steals in this category every few weeks.

Fair enough. I need one now as my cable company is charging $15 a month for a router that I didn't ask for, so in the end it'll be the same. Appreciate your help!
