Amazon has the new Orico IG740-Pro 2TB "Industrial" M.2 NVMe SSD with 7450/6500 MB/s Read/Write Speeds and TLC NAND for $112 ($140-20% clipped coupon). It seems to be pretty new--there are a batch of reviews out there, but mostly from the last month or so. The drive has a 5-year warranty and is rated for 1200 TBW.

Yeah, folks are going say "it's Orico.", "it doesn't have DRAM cache", "it's 100% China-made", etc. All of these are true! So if these are showstoppers for you, no need to even consider this. But if you are okay with these, the performance seems pretty impressive for the price.

I've ordered one and will let you all know how it goes.

You can tell it's good because it's got the word "Industrial".

It's one above "commercial"

Yeah, I don't know what "industrial" is supposed to mean in this case, but maybe they are pointing out that they TLC vs. QLC? With 1200 TBW (essentially, you could rewrite the whole drive about 600 times), that's decent, certainly not extraordinary. Whatever the case, assuming decent quality, which is my experience with a wide range of Orico products, it's the performance on this drive (for the price) that makes this interesting. I'll let you know when mine arrives!

It's a rating equivalent to what "high endurance" means with SD cards.

In practice, it probably won't affect you or make a significant difference, but the claim is it's been designed for additional durability outside of normal conditions. The addition of ECC is also interesting, which makes me think it has a much larger reserve pool to heal itself. And, then, of course, there's the extended warranty.

However, like with "high endurance" SD, most of the reliability comes with the belief that it's more reliable.

I'm seeing this brand too often now. I keep forgetting that they're not a legit brand. That is, Reddit strongly indicates that they label QLC drives as TLC. If I want to pay cheaper drive prices, I'll pay the same from a company that isn't lying about internals.

I've had good luck with Orico stuff--a mix of chargers, tons of 3.5" and 2.5" SATA enclosures, a handful of NVMe enclosures and a few M.2 SATA ones, and a handful of mixed SSDs, too. I have not read that they label QLC drives as TLC, and if that is the truth, it sucks. But honestly, a company could not get away with that too much as there are so many internet sleuths out there. Anyway, mine arrives tomorrow so wish me luck!

Good luck!

I think I'd try enclosures with them. But I'm actually looking for a system drive and that's not the part I want to take chances with. For a game disk, sure.

Same drive in shenzhen is $50. This is a standard ssd using chinese NAND from YMTC who has taken all of Samsung's technology and can now compete against them with much lower prices. Durability is still in question and also watch for basically zero warranty as once the Chinese companies take your money you are on your own or if they actually accept warranty they will ask you to ship drives to china on your own dime.
