I use one of these in my office. Other than the skimpy internal SSD, this thing is potent for everything almost anyone needs to do on a computer. A USB-C SSD enclosure easily completes this and makes it perfect for whatever the future will bring.

I do the same. Purchased a 2TB SanDisk external drive thru a black friday sale and paid less than $100 for it. Now I have storage, speed, and reliability.

100% but that's increasingly rare. Still, I do hoard AGC's or wait for back to school sales. Just depends on how patient you are.

That's Apple's business model - offer a powerful, compact, stylish machine for (relatively) cheap, but limit storage so users have to either pay for expensive storage upgrades, or subscribe to their cloud storage service. I chose the latter, because subscribing for 3 years (expected use life for me) is less than upgrading the internal storage to my requirements. (And that's before you calculate the time value of money, with paying it all up front vs monthly $10 increments.)

Of course, the much cheaper option is using an external SSD. With the thunderbolt ports, you can get really fast read/write speeds that won't be noticeably different than internal storage speed in most normal use. I only went cloud b/c I also have a Macbook Air, and want access to all my data on the go, too.

There is now a third party module that you can replace in this machine that would give it lots of storage at full speed. A bit more involved than doing it on a desktop due to how jam packed the case is.
You can wait until your warranty expires then buy the third party 2TB module to refresh the machine for years to come.

Good to know. I couldn't remember their price. I'll catch it next time at that price. Thanks
