Same CPU as the GL.Inet Beryl AX and Asus AX57 Go, a dual-core 1.3GHz Mediatek. Probably means similar performance to those for CPU-limited things like Wireguard throughput, give or take some more or less mature firmware.

See my comment above. This one is a little bit smaller, but as a tradeoff the firmware is less mature. It depends on what specific features you'd want, since GL.Inet has a long track record in this space and their firmware updates and features are way better than TP-Link's.

Serious question: why would I buy this for travel instead of just using my phone's hotspot everywhere I go? I can connect multiple devices to my phone with no problem, and I have a lot of data. It seems like these travel routers are less useful in 2025, unless I'm missing something.

This is to be used to share the WiFi connection from your hotel room, airline to all of your devices rather than paying for each device. Also provides more security and functionality

For me, also offers convenience if for example you bring gaming or other wifi devices on a trip. No need to individually add each apparatus to the hotel wifi, instead just set up the devices on the travel router ahead of time and then all that's needed when you reach the hotel is to connect the travel router to the hotel wifi.

I have the beryl and I really love it, the only thing that's kinda hard for me to understand on those is the lack of internal battery, that renders it pretty clunky if you intend to use on an airport, a nice 2/3-hour long battery would make this device perfect, other than that it's pretty great.
