This seems crazy niche. Never in my life have a said to myself....my life would be complete if I could find a SSD that magnetically attached to my cell phone

But hey, might fit someone's use case.
That's a really cool tech. I don't run out of space, but it's a great solution for getting rid of too many photos.

Definitely a use case for backing up your documents, photos/videos or directly recording to the drive as ProRes can take a lot of space.

I suppose if you already have an external SSD, you can slap a magnetic ring on it to attach via MagSafe.

Kind of? If you have too many photos you can just offload them at home on a regular backup drive. I can't think of a reason to want your backup drive attached to your phone at all times.

I would imagine it's probably good for vloggers that record on-the-go a lot. You can also use this to add extra storage to gaming handhelds, which are already bulky so a bit of additional bulk wouldn't be much of an issue.

Not sure why not just use a usb-c flash drive? Is there an advantage hardware wise for ssd vs flash drive?

Flash drive has much lower speeds

Just curious, how long are you backing up your documents for? My backups are dump and disconnect and rather infrequently, I do not need to have a kit assembled for hours at a time and daily. My backup process; start the file transfer > sit phone / SSD down while files move > make a cup of coffee > disconnect phone and SSD after gigs and gigs of data are transferred during prior step.

Now, I could see this combo being really useful if you had a high end phone you were using to make movies / content. That way your video recording could be housed on the SSD vs on the phone's (limited) HD and completing for SSD write speed with system processes.

*Not judging other use cases but this just does not make sense to me.

SSDs at 2000mbps are over 10x faster than most flash drives, which are slow as molasses.

I'm looking for something like this, I wonder how reliable the SSD is compared to brands like Samsung.

The gray option is a frequently returned item. Yikes.

Not heard of this brand. As good as Samsung or Crucial?

You have to use external storage like this to get the highest bit rate recordings. Is this a good selection for that use? I do not know.
