Meh. Just use the bottom of a frying pan. A few smacks and job's done. Harder to control, but good for a quick flattening.

(Also have blade tenderizer and hockey puck/joystick style (like this [amazon.com], but different model). Still just use a frying pan more often than not.)

Besides beating your meat with this, I say its a good schitznel making tool. Last time i made schitznel i had gotten a whole pork loin because it's such a great lower fat meat but not dry like chicken breast, and it costs about the same or less than chicken breast. I know its possible to make schitznel out of viel but wanna talk about expensive plus you got to deal with the heavy burden it puts on your concious. But anyhow i cut the loin in to i dunno maybe 4 or 6 oz steaks and put that steak on some plastic wrap. I use reynolds commercial if i could, but i use the next closest the Sams Club commercial. Those are the big wide rolls like used by chefs and cooks. THen i put pull out another layer of the plastic wrap and put it top, make a sandwhich but with plastic instead of bread. THen I get my meat beater that looks a lot like this, but is aluinum which is a pain because i cant wash it int he dishwasher. But I get that nadn make even smacks on the meat. smack, smack, smack, smack smackidy smack.. smack ... smack. going around the meat making it spread outwards a little at a time so i don't split the meat too bad. Once its like cardboard thin, maye a little thinner, then its to the flour , then to the egg/mik dip, and then the cracker/bread crumbs. If my egg/milk dip was not too thin, i will get good coverage of the crumbs. Then off to the fryer. Can be served with a lemon and some butter, or can get fancyu and mix up some lemon with the butter liek a sauce. But why do that it'll all get mixed up in your tummy.

Tempting...the old all-aluminum ones get attached by dishwasher detergent and I'm way too lazy to wash by hand most of the time. Coating chipping off is a hard-pass though. Even if it's not on the meat (using saran or similar for pounding), it will make the Al underneath susceptible to attack in the DW.

I usually just use the blunt side of my butcher knife to beat my meat, should i invest in this meat hammer or go for a bladed one with needles?

These do a pretty good job on chicken and steaks. Slice a breast into 2 layers, smack it a few times with the flat side, you'll really tell a difference.
