Just bought the surge hydraulic m12 w/ Ratchet yesterday as my first m12. Want that hackszall for yard work and some extra batteries, but this I'm going to resist buying older versions of unnecessary tools

For the person just starting out, maybe in an apartment, starter home, this is a decent deal. Hey it's got all the basics and will get most job one might need to get done, particularly after you get some bigger batteries at the first deal.

I think if you didn't have a set, this would be good. This is often the sale price so nothing great in this deal and it's the non fuel version for what it matters. The ratchet is appealing and this set would be more than enough for a home owner.

My primary tool platform is DeWalt and I've got quite a bit including FlexVolt. I started in with M12 for my travel trailer. The lighter, smaller footprint was the draw along with the tools like the wet dry vac, grease gun (bearing maintenance and inside the very small cabinets. In fact, I have used them inside the house in cabinets and tight jobs.

Those "old" brushed tools are usually even smaller than the fuel brushless versions and although "old" comparatively they are still very good tools. And the installer drill that is fuel is one of my favorites.

This is the usual sale price and a good deal. I have 18v versions in Dewalt/Makita already, but I usually reach for these first, since they're lighter and have plenty of power. I would use my big stuff if I was building a deck or something. The ratchet in this deal is something I use almost every day. The flashlight I use often, the impact and drill get used often and are great. The hackzall sucks, and I really only use it for plastics. I give the kit a 9/10 and think it's a great buy for anyone that doesn't have it. I bought two higher capacity batteries later to have some extras.

Yeah I'm sure this is a great starter kit. I'm at the point where I've burned out and upgraded most of my basic Ryobi kit to brushless and got my first impact driver (now ordered m12 hydraulic because impacts are loud). I think I'm working my tools harder than the average homeowner so I'm trying to get better stuff now.

Ah there's a fuel hackzall, I guess that's the one I'd want

Realize the included hackzall in this kit is the brushed version. The Fuel brushless tools are a lot better investment and worth waiting for a sale. The Fuel version of the drill bumps this brushed drill's 275 in lbs of torque to 400 in lbs so quite a significate difference.

I'm on the "This is a good starter set for a new homeowner" (who isn't really into DIY) bandwagon.

If you just want to do basic stuff around your place, this set will cover everything, once you buy a drill set, a set of driver tips, and some hackzall blades.

There are other deals if you just have to have Fuel tools.
