Is there a nice bright flashlight that isn't "tactical"? On/off is plenty functionality for me.

I think all high powered flashlights are marketed as Tactical equivalent to saying military grade. This flashlight is really bright, having just on/off at highest brightness would be too bright for all the time use.

Oh boy, that listing is a hot mess.

Quote :
When the phone is switched on, click the side button to change the gear: energy-saving gear -> low brightness gear -> medium brightness gear -> high brightness gear, click -> normal stall;
... then mix in some German, and some Lorem Ipsum default text, and the whole thing becomes even more mysterious than figuring out two switches doing random things.

Camry-chan, give them a heads up (assuming you're working for them)...

The only mode I want on a flashlight is on/off. More isn't always better, guys. At least this one has the switch on the side instead of recessed in the base, because I love playing Find the Button when the power goes out.

Agreed. And an option to change brightness. The rest is just too much. SOS or strobe. I don't see why would that be needed.

There's no way that this thing runs at 3000lm steady, and that's because the thermals on these lights just don't allow it. All of the turbo modes on this size of light will run for mere minutes and then step down to something much more reasonable.

Don't buy it and expect to be able to use 3000lm for more than a few minutes. The chart below suggests it might not even hit that output.

This runtime chart shows it is at best a 480lm light for any amount of time, and even that doesn't hold up all that well over time. There are better regulated lights.

If you think a flush/recessed mounted or soft-touch button is a PITA, just wait until you hear about this firmware (yes, I said that right....*firmware*) that's loaded on the flashlight called "Anduril". You literally need a 8x11 double-sided sheet of paper with flowcharts in order to understand how to use the flashlight. I 100% kid you not.

In short, it's like you sat down a User Experience-challenged engineer and ordered them to incorporate 50 features into a single button interface. There's not much you can do within those limitations, so this is what you get as a result. A complicated, hard-to-use mess.

That's the LAST thing I want to be grabbing in an emergency situation -- which let's face it, that's usually when we reach for a flashlight in modern times. When things are going wrong.

And let me get this out before the flashlight apologists brigade me... Anduril is not inherently easy to use. Maybe to you since you use it every day. But to any normal person? It's a flat out deal-breaker. A flashlight should just work. I should NEVER be able to get it into a funky/unknown state where I have to perform a hard reset to it. I know of a perfect way to "hard reset it" -- using a sledgehammer. There...problem solved.

The power drops off after a couple of minutes. But isn't that true for most high lumen flashlights?

I dont think too hard to get used to. get used to it and ignore the rest:

off or on - 2 clicks is the super blast
off - 1 click gets you back where you left off
on - 1 click turns off
on - 1 hold cycles thru the brightness.

can ignore:
off - 1 hold turns on the lowest moonlight setting
