I owned this for a year occasional gaming mostly web surfing. It worked great for the most part if you're using the CPU or GPU near max it will throttle the clock speed back due to reaching the thermal max of the cooling system. Pretty sure this generation also had the ram overheating issue which will throttle the entire system. For this price it's a good deal. Mine was working fine when I sold it. Sometimes turning it on, it would take a long time to power on with high fan speed for some reason. Bios updates are nonexistent.

I've been using one of these (the 32 GB / 1 TB model) as my office machine the past 2 years now and it works great for that purpose and occasional light gaming, including very substantial multitasking. Note the $750 for this inferior model as the normal price isn't quite right - I paid $580 for mine.

I was thinking about something like this and decided to get a refurbished 64gb Steam deck instead. With 512gb SSD and a dock it was around 320 USD before taxes. In desktop mode it's KDE Linux and has all the Linux apps and can run Windows apps with Wine or Valve's Proton

Be careful ordering refurbished from Minisforum. I got a UM690S last week and when it arrived it was just flopping around in the box, no padding/packaging around it. Luckily it seems to be working, but still considering returning it.

Lots of stories online about customer service nightmares from Minisforum. If you can hold out for one via Amazon Renewed, it's a much safer buy (90 days to return, and a much easier process)

I also recently got a refurbished one from them a week ago but luckily it came in decent packaging. Took a look time to arrive though.

It has USB ports to connect a hard drive.

as long as it's sending your data back to GINA, no BIOS update needed!
