Solid espresso machine. You will need an espresso grinder as well, or you can use pre ground espresso using the pressurized basket.

If you need counter space, id prefer the Bambino plus. Otherwise, I prefer this machine. They are very very similar. This one takes longer to froth milk, but it does allow you to practice the skill, where as the Bambino does it for you. Also, this one has a larger water drip tray.

Paired with a competent grinder, this machine makes solid espresso. My Quick Mill heat exchanger espresso machine is down for repairs and except for steaming speed I can make a comparable drink. Given the size and speed of the Breville, I will wait till it fails one day and return to the Quick Mill.

FYI...my grinder is a Ceado e6p v2 with a 64mm burr.

This machine is fantastic, it is essentially a Barista Express without a grinder. Paired with a Baratza Encore ESP or Fellow Opus (or Starseeker E55 or DF54 if you want to try single dose), it will blow the Barista Express and Express Impress out of the water.
While technically the Barista Pro and Barista Touch have an upgraded grinder (same as the Baratza ESP), the rest of the machine is the same as the Diffuser and the price point is higher. It also means you're stuck with the grinder in the machine if you ever buy an upgraded grinder.
Only consideration is that it doesn't auto-froth milk which the Bambino Plus does for the same price point. But the Plus isn't as good of a machine as this otherwise.

As I mention, this + Baratza ESP (+$200) will be almost identical to the Barista Pro. Buying them separate will allow you to upgrade the grinder in future separate to the machine.
Personally, I'd go for this since the Barista Pro is $200 more. Then choose from one of the $200 grinders I listed above.

Lance Hedrick is a big coffee guy and did a budget machine ranking. He only gave 2 machines under $1000 an A for value/performance. This is one of them (see 32:50 of the video)

I have this machine and it's magnificent. Was $50 cheaper last year but this is a good deal. Excellent shots and consistency once you dial it in and despite some winging I've read, the frothing wand is great and quick

Oh and the only complaint I can make with this machine is it's a bit of a water hog if you use the frother due to how it purges the boiler but that's a minor issue.

I've been rocking this machine since 2016 I think, I forget exactly when I got it. Would recommend.

You can rebuild it and get parts for it. Replaced the pump and solenoid valves in the past year as the first major maintenance, probably $70 and an hour or two of my time.
