The remote isn't IR, line of sight is irrelevant

This model (3rd gen 4k, 128GB w/ ethernet) was released in Oct 2022 and is due for a refresh. Also, it has been on sale for around $100 multiple times, going back to 2023.

I currently own all 3 generations of the 4k Apple TV, an Nvidia Shield and a custom HTPC. The 2nd and 3rd gen 4k Apple TVs are my default for day to day use.

While I prefer the design of the updated Apple remote, I do have connectivity issues with it. I also have a reoccurring issue where the right navigation button registers double presses at times.

With the new models expected this year, I would wait unless you absolutely need one now.
Integrate with one's other Apple devices and run the best OS for streaming apps available.

Same, was waiting on a newer model but just price matched this sale to Best Buy and used some additional reward certificates. Thanks OP!

New one is coming out soon. Is it still worth it to buy?

The box doesn't always read my ATV remote signal. It's 8 feet from my couch with line-of-sight, remote pointed directly at it. Frequently misses inputs. I just use my TV IR remote with works fine over HDMI-CEC.

Some streaming apps linked to our cable provider need to be occasionally force-restarted in order to view anything.

To force-restart apps I need the ATV remote and oftentimes I'll accidentally hit the microphone button on the side which is a little too easy to press IMO.

Those aside the ATV has been great for me. Fast and fluid. Never buying another Amazon stick for our living room.

I like the current model but would wait for the next one that's sure to have AV1 video hardware decoding capability unless there's another drop to $100 or less.

He said he's using a TV IR remote + HDMI CEC to work around the (bluetooth) connectivity issues with the Apple TV remote.

I have similar connectivity issues, particularly when I rest the Apple remote on my body. Moving the Apple TV from behind my TV has helped but has not eliminated the problem.

I haven't seen this issue with prior generation Apple TVs or the old remote. There is something about the 3rd gen 4k Apple TV and/or the remote where the RF connection is not at solid as the prior implementations.

Agreed. Un-pair and then re-pair the remote. Had that occasionally happen on an older AppleTV model.

I think you're right, it used to get down to $100 a few times a year, but using my SD alerts as a point of reference, the only time this model has been $100 in the last year was an unannounced Costco sale on Black Friday and it sold out before the west coast woke up. I'm going to wait for that price or the new model.

I've had one of these for a year, and had to a Roku (only other streaming box I had) after upgrading my TV to the Samsung S95D.

The Apple TV for whatever reason will not turn the TV on via CEC. I threw the Roku on the same input, and everything turned on correctly again.

I think there are some CEC handshake issues with the Apple TV and the Samsung S95D for what we reason, but it's essentially unusable for me at the moment
