The number of armchair doctors in this thread spouting unproven nonsense they've gleaned from podcasts is simultaneously hilarious and sadly emblematic of the society we now live in. Bet you guys think vaccines are poison and seed oils are the devil, am I right? SMH
Pssst, it's because the podcast health warriors don't actually know what they're talking about.
Wait, if everyone hates fluoride, why has every dentist I've been to my entire life continued to not only use it but prescribe medical grade fluoride toothpaste for my sensitive teeth?

Topical fluoride is so beneficial for the your teeth! It takes the critical pH in which your enamel erodes from 5.5 to 4.5 thus making your teeth more resistant to acid attack. If your diet is full for added sugars, like most people, topical fluoride toothpaste can be very helpful in decreasing caries (cavities). The bacteria (step. mutans) that cause cavities metabolizes sugar and their metabolite is lactic acid! People who are consistent with their brushing and flossing and who use a fluoride toothpaste have a decrease risk of caries. It is also true that people who are consistent with brushing and flossing without a fluoride toothpaste have a lower caries risk compared to people who are not consistent at brushing and flossing but not as low as the people who use fluoride topically. It's all about the disruption of the plaque biofilm. If your diet is low in fermentable carbohydrates and added sugars, you do not necessarily need to use a fluoride toothpaste, as you are at a much lower risk of getting cavities compared to someone who has a diet high in added sugars. Fluoride can be very detrimental and even lethal in higher dosages. There are research studies showing a correlation (not necessarily causation) with certain levels of fluoride and a lower IQ. These levels are generally not reached if using a topical fluoride, like toothpaste, correctly. Hydroxyapatite toothpaste can be a great alternative to fluoride toothpaste, but it's important to make sure you're using the right kind. Nano- hydroxyapatite is the only type that has been shown to help remineralize teeth but only at a concentration of 10%. But keep in mind that the critical pH for demineralization stays at 5.5 rather than the 4.5 that you get with fluoride. In the end, it's a personal choice and more often than not people are not making a fully educated decision.
