I have the stand alone string trim with line IQ and it works well. I've only had an issue with it once spooling the line but otherwise it's been great.
Probably have to hope you get a good unit and maintain it?

Some research shows this is a common problem. Switching to the faster speed and revving the trigger has been helpful in feeding in more line, but it's not always successful. I'm disappointed to have spent $300 the last time this deal was on the front page last year.
Do yourself a favor and get a bump head trimmer.
