Sometimes. It depends on if the malware goes to the BIOS level. They have found a way to implement it via hardware/software update like keyloggers but YMMV at the BIOS level.
I'd use a secondary account for setup after a fresh OS install and monitor incoming/outgoing traffic if possible. Hate to trust it to have it then hack my home internet and cause a headache or worse grab all the traffic including passwords

Random/unknown/new companies always hold a risk.
