Every time I see these JBL cases with screens I always think they seem cool, but I'm not sure what purpose/function they actually serve and I don't ever really have the case on me when I'm using earbuds, so even if they had some amazing functionality I don't know if I'd ever use it lol

I have a previous version of these and there are some additional features like sound profiles and the big one for me is switching between the Ambient Sound and Noise Cancelling that I currently have to access via the JBL app. I want this version so I can make those changes on the case screen instead of having to use the phone app. But I'll hold off for the black pair

I don't see the point either. Someone is trying to reinvent an MP3 player here.
What does it do which you can't already do from the smartphone or the smartwatch? Even if it's supposed to be more portable than the phone, it is still an extra device to carry. And a smartwatch which you are likely to have is even more portable still.

Can't you tap the left earpiece once to switch from ANC & ambient sound? No need for apps or screens
Nobody can see the point here but when Apple makes one, then everyone will see the point and get one .
I saw some sketches and patent rumors for Apple for a similar design.
I have these. Already replaced once under warranty. They have a bad habit of staying connected (usually one) in the case... The replacements they sent did the same thing day 3... Not since. The screen is helpful to verify that both buds aren't "in ear."If not for the sound quality I would be very disappointed. But damn they sound good.
I had the same issue on the JBL Tour Pro 2 model, it was very annoying. It would drain the case battery because it was technically powered on...inside the case 🙄. Paid so much money for those. As much as I thought they sounded great, they weren't worth the headaches.
