I have one of these from a few years ago, it does NOT pass through serial numbers for the drives. having issues with software raid and speed. Microsoft Storage Spaces work but that's about it. Just got the newer 2 bay enclosures, (9728C3) and it works much better with truenas.

If you load it up with 5 18Tb hard drives and don't do any sort of data duplication/replication, you'd have enough space for 940 willion pictures, 1800 willion documents, 6 willion movies, or 1.8 willion games. Seems pretty obvious.

Is there a fan? seems like the drives would get pretty hot packed in there like that

FYI, all hard drives have powerful magnets inside. If you're worried about tiny magnets on an enclosure, you should probably never use any NAS or DAS with more than one drive since the drives are stacked right next to each other.
