Bought the radar only version (also on sale for $130) a few months ago and for my suburban streets and on fast descents, its a game changer - riding is so much safer.

Always thought paying +$150 for a light/radar was a bit outrageous but reading so much positive feedback on this, figured I'd try it out and now wished I bought it years ago.

This new version has been out for less than a year and I believe its the first time its been on sale. The previous version was on sale for $150 a few times, and has the same features as this one except this allows you to use your phone to monitor (old one required a garmin head unit). My radar only version also allows using the phone, which I initially started with but turned out it drains the phone battery in a few hours and I ride long so didn't work for me, and so purchased a head unit. One nice thing about the radar only version is you can put it inside your saddle bag or jersey pocket and still works. However the great thing about this light/radar combo is the closer the car is to you, the faster the light blinks, which hopefully makes the driver more aware.
REI has it for the same price as does bike tires direct. Options to consider if you have a dividend to spend at REI or VIP points at BTD.

Great unit. I have two 510's and love them.
If you are going to wear earphones when riding or running, may I suggest that you try bone conduction headphones, instead of ones that go in the ear or over the ear. I use the AfterShokz Aeropex for both and can still hear what is going on around me.

This is the latest Garmin Varia. It seems to be on sale and can be purchased cheaper than the older RTL510.

Thanks! Just picked this up for my girlfriend's bike. I have the 510 and love it. Integrates well with the Elemnt Bolt. Radar is amazing for riding roads, but works well on bike paths when riding slower with kids since other bikers are approaching significantly faster.

Thank you SD. My wife and I share the older version. We have been riding together more often so it will be nice that we both have one. It's a little annoying when u are connected to 1. This one has better battery life as well.

This is a game changer for me. Can wear headphones and can ride more safely. I know I know headphones shouldn't be worn....but I do in solo rides, and many times just one ear

This is worth every penny

Try Aftershokz bone conducting headphones. They leave your ears wide open for traffic awareness.

If you're an urban rider these Garmin radar/rear lights are one of the biggest safety upgrades you can add to your bike. How the flashing light reacts to incoming traffic is a game changer by itself as it flashes faster as cars get closer to bring their attention to you.

Just got the lightning deal a few weeks ago for the 510, otherwise I would've snagged this. My only complaint is that extra mounts are so dang expensive. I want to swap it between bikes... Any hacks/suggestions?

It was $160 at trekbicyclesuperstore.com last November. I really love mine and I feel naked without it. One of the best upgrades for a commuter.

I don't know if you ride with a rear rack or have any flat surface you can bolt a quarter turn stem top cap mount but those can be bought for $10.

Here's what I use:
