Been using this and the 2% for some time. For the interested, it doesn't help with preventing baldness or hanging onto hair unless you are one of the few effected by hair loss from head fungus. For the average balder due to DHT, this won't due much and you'd be better off spending your money on minoxidil aka rogaine.

Why I do like this is that it is the best anti dandruff shampoo I've used and smells decent too. This is also better than head and shoulders. I currently use the 1% (this) every other day and use the 2% weekly. Haven't gotten any dandruff in a long time.

For those interested in an alternative approach, I found much better results from apple cider vinegar. I mix 50/50 water and apple cider vinegar into a spray bottle and use that as my "shampoo" followed by whatever conditioner is handy.

For me, it's more effective, cheaper, and more "natural."

Yeah, this works great as anti-dandruff and also a lot of people on r/tressless recommend this for flaking caused by minoxidil.

I bought this before for the same sale price but now I think i'll try something else for a few reasons.

Its more expensive than alternatives per ounce, side effects of Ketoconazole are far worse than alternative active ingredients (coal tar using brands are also sketchy), 2% Ketoconazole (this shampoo is 1%) was found to only be 5% better than 1% Zinc Pyrithione https://www.karger.com/Article/Abstract/66452

So while its on sale, and might work, you should probably try the other stuff first, if those dont work, buy it at full price and try it. But if they do work, you save a lot of money long term, with less chance of nasty side effects.

But doesn't it smell awful? Sounds like even regular shampoo or conditioner or soap afterwards would have a tough time to get rid of that smell?

Not in the least. You can add tea tree oil or peppermint oil if you're concerned on the smell, but I've used without it and without conditioner even and it's fine.

I use this every other day. I leave it on for about 5 minutes. My hair looks good & thick. Googling around shows some legit studies saying it does effectively wash DHT off of the scalp. Does it really? I don't know, but it doesn't hurt and I'm gonna shampoo anyway.

This is an antifungal, so if your dandruff is caused by something else, ymmv. I have long hair that I don't have time to blow dry, swim almost daily, and live in a very humid climate, so my head spends a good portion of the day moist in one way or another. This is the only stuff that worked for me and was recommended by my dermatologist. Not sure what long term side effects are being referred to here. Literally been using this off and on for 20+ years…

LOL it does not wash DHT away. That would make this the cure for baldness and you sure as hell wouldn't be paying $10 for it. It is the best dandruff shampoo I've ever used though, and it will keep your scalp clean.
