Yes, I bought one of the original Shark Navigators back in 2008 and it is still going strong after all of these years.

I think we paid like $185 back then for it.

These are excellent vacuums that are lightweight and powerful.

But I do agree with the other poster who said you should get the new one with the self-cleaning brush roll that doesn't clog with hair.

Our Shark needs to have my wife's long hair cleaned out of the brush roll about once every 3-4 full house vacuums.

It's not a big deal, but if you've got hairy family members, human or pet, then this can get annoying to clean out the hair wrapped around the brush roll.

I bought mine back in 2010 as a gift for my mother! It's been going strong for the last 12 years with filter changes here and there, along with occasional brush roll clean-outs. It cleans my medium-high pile carpets so well. The amount of dog hair that it picks up is awesome with weekly vacuuming. I also use it for my hardwood kitchen because it has the option to turn off the brush roll.

Shark makes amazing products!!!

Is this one good for vinyl wood flooring? I have it pretty much throughout the house. If not, any recommendations?

I have the CU500 and it cleans up nicely. I could make my shoes squeek on the flooring after if I wanted. It's much butter than my Dyson stick vacuum.

Only annoying thing is having to uncoil the entire power cord to use the handheld pieces.

I don't think so, just a low and high setting for bare floors/carpets.

I have a regular Navigator (2016 non-XL) and it does let you turn off the roller. It has a switch with three clicks: on+brush, on, off.

If you have the old shark powered rotator liftaway, part for part everything is interchangeable with the "new" model, the brush head is the only difference and can be purchased the whole head for like $40 on sharks website, I have love hate with the brush roll, it indeed does not get tangled however I'd say35% more effort on medium shag carpet

Shark knows this model is their bread and butter, so they only make small incremental changes to their "lift away" product. Usually the changes are things like having a better brushhead for pets or coming with different attachments. If you are just needing a very straightforward corded vacuum this is an excellent product at a killer price. This thing will be in your cleaning tools kit for decades and you'll have trouble ever justifying getting rid of it.
