In the past, Kohls was always an option for me, but this last time I did an Amazon return, it was not. I forgot, had the return in my car and took it into Kohls to go ahead and do it there while I was at the store. That's when I remembered it was not an option.
I do live closer to a Whole Foods than Kohls, but that's been true for over 10 years, so that's not it. And I have done an Amazon return since they and Whole Foods became buddy-buddy, so that's not it. But it is definitely on Amazon.

The last time I tried to drop an Amazon return at Kohls, Kohls wasn't an eligible location for the return. I had to go to Whole Foods to drop off my Amazon return. The girl at Kohls told me they see that a couple of times a week. Lucky for me, I was there for another reason and had not made a special trip to Kohls for the return.
My recent return from my home address gives me the following options:
Staples - FREE no box no label
UPS - FREE no box no label
But when I change the return address to an address in the same town/city as a store:
Staples - FREE no box no label
Kohl's - FREE no box no label
UPS - $1.00 no box no label
When I have customers come in and they have Staples/UPS/WFM, I will tell them they can try cancelling the return and redoing it, but change the address to one closer to a store. On eligible items, it'll work, but YMMV.
In terms of the coupon changing throughout the day, it's usually the same for an entire day. Possibly if the printer glitched when printing your confirmation/coupon, it might spit out the 25% (I actually saw one last week) without a barcode to scan instead of the usual 15/20%. I can't recall the last time I saw a $5 promo.
I can't state the number of customers who still come in daily still who still do not read their return instructions prior to note it is meant for UPS/FEDEX/USPS/WFM/Staples. A couple weeks ago I was informed of a customer who requested assistance bringing in their Amazon Return. I repeatedly questioned if it was for Kohl's drop off and was told the customer confirmed it. An associate goes outside with a cart and brings it in. It turns out to be a couch in multiple boxes/bags. It was brought to Amazon Returns and the customer pulls up . . . . a UPS label
