Should be $678. I know OP mentioned the correct $678 price in his post, but the thread title saying $578 is what brings people into this post.

For people who use them, it's typically just for the front L + R speakers as -- if they're big floorstanders -- they might want a lot of wattage. Some people get really gung ho and get dedicated amps that can do three channels (typically front L + R + center). Some get dedicated amps that can do five channels or seven channels, etc. But since most surround speakers in a HT setup don't require a ton of juice, a pretty beefy amp like this probably wouldn't need a hand on surround sound speakers.
