This is a good card. 0% apr for 15 months. Great arbitrage with 5% savings accounts now. The $200 and cash back categories are a nice bonus. Capital One denied me for the Quicksilver card, even though I have the Venture X. This card is basically the same.

It doesn't have 5% saving. Does it?

You need to let 100k sit in a checking account doing absolutely nothing for 3 months before you're a preferred member, which gives you an extra 2.5% cashback in primary category...

Considering you can put that 100k in treasury bills andget an easy 1k in 3 months, It makes no sense to do this and makes me think all the people who talk about preferred rewards are bots

Edit: The card and the deal itself are fine, but preferred rewards definitely isn't some financial goal to strive for...

Lol. You don't put 100k in saving, you put it in roth ira or stocks. That counts as well

Thanks Smilie You are correct, and I've been told multiple times by now, but it's nice to be reminded again. But if I'm allowed to be pedantic, Roth IRA is a type of account like savings or individual brokerage, and stocks is a form of equity, like bills or bonds.

Well, don't know what to tell you. BofA is my bank, and I've been silver level for the past ten years. Lost it earlier this year due to some high expenses. And it's total across all accounts not including business accounts.
Think they changed the tiers since there was no DIamond tier when I signed up a year or so ago.

This doesn't make sense at all. Let's say I have 100k available to sit in a checking account (I don't).
I can let that money sit in Bank of America to get "preferred awards status", which after three months gives me an additional 2.25% cashback on purchases in a single category (say online stores like amazon) which assumes I know what category a purchase will be applied to (I don't).

OR I can put that 100k in treasury bills that return 5% non-competitively over 13 weeks... who the hell would pick first option???

Edit: I have nothing against this card or this deal, but definitely don't go into this card for preferred rewards...

You can do the same treasury through Merrill and have the best of both worlds. Personally I've parked the money in tttxx and preferred deposit both giving >5%

Thanks, this sounds like great advice. Why did you pick that Blackrock ETF, compared to, e.g., Vanguard?

I don't think I can buy an equivalent Vanguard fund on Merrill Platform.

FYI there is a fee on foreign currency purchases just in case anyone was wondering.
Yep, and that fee (+ the Visa exchange rate markup) is steep enough that it will effectively negate all your cashback, so imo only worth using domestically.

For using abroad, the BoA Travel Rewards is decent. 1.5% back in points that can be applied to travel/restaurant purchases, no annual fee, no foreign transaction fee!

I love dinging my credit and getting denied. Good times! 740's but credit length and average credit length are on the lower end.

Long time user of the MC version of this card. Applied and approved for this Visa version (main motivation was to use it at Costco & Costco Gas for higher ROR). Min spend completed, and received confirmation I qualified for $200 bonus,

That's why you apply to multiple or as many as you want to all on the same day and get dinged 1 hard inquiry.

Does it work that way? I know multiple credit checks in a short time make you look more risky, and credit karma, experian, and the like always seem to know what bank made the inquiry.

I'm not doing much with my credit anyway, just regular cash back on all purchases and the introduction bonuses when I can get them🤷 ♂️

On Jan 2nd I applied for a Amex, Capital One, and BofA card. Was approved for all 3. So far only 1 Hard inquiry has hit and it was the 3rd card I applied for. My credit score went up not down.

Do I have to report this to IRS? considered as income or considered as a rebate. And usually goes towards your credit card balance.
