Good price on a not great tool. The on/off switch is designed poorly and will start to bind after only a little use. It makes it so stiff that you often won't be able to turn it on with just your hands.

I also came here to point out the issue with the on/off switch. After I cut plaster walls with it I couldn't get it to turn on again. I was able to open it, clean it out with compressed air, and greased the switch with silicon grease, but it would be better if that wasn't necessary. Otherwise it's a fine tool, easy switch blades with good compatibility.

Wondering if putting some tape overt he switch would prevent dust getting underneath? I had a similar issue with a Porter Cable Variable Speed Sander. Shouldn't have to do that, but maybe eliminates the problem and makes it functional?

Is this what one would use to cut a piece of drywall out to hang floating shelves?

I've never used one of these. I suspect it one of those tools you don't use often but when you do it's a life-saver, is that it? For the price, worth having just to have, just in case?

Meh. I bought my brushless Makita XMT03Z LXT last year tool only for $69 from Fasteners Inc. I never shop retail price on power tools, nor would buy brands that are off my battery system. Ridgid has some decent tool line but not on my top 2 list. I'd go with Makita or Milwaukee. The price differential between Makita or Milwaukee VS Ridgid or Ryobi is not that far if you sit patiently and be on the lookout for sale items.

It's handy for cutting small precise holes like cutting a hole in the dry wall to add wall outlets. You are right you will not take this tool out often. I used my Makita brushless multi tool only twice since I bought it last year.

I've done a couple room renovations (2.5 bathrooms, kitchen, new flooring in all the living spaces, facelifts in bedrooms and living rooms) and this is by far the hand tool I've used the most for cutting stuff.

Has there been other tools that were probably more appropriate for the job that I was doing? Probably. But this is pretty versatile and can make pretty accurate cuts when necessary for small DIY projects.

I have the Ryobi one because I had the same "this might be good to have at the right moment" mentality, but with how much it's been used I definitely wish I spent a little more for a nicer one with less vibration and quick blade changes, but it's still one of the most useful tools I have.

My cousin is like you with these things. He's even got sanding and polishing pads for his. Caught him touching up his clear coat one day with it even though there was a random orbital polisher within arms length.
