Thanks OP, was about to install the HALO canless lights, but already in the Hue ecosystem and this brought the cost difference into close enough range

Thank you! I just put in the halo ones but I've had my eye on these. 8 lights so $200x2 — $400 is a bit much for lights, as good as they are.

I also say that I was able to get a 20% coupon on my first 4 pack so that brought it to about $120 after tax, making this even sweeter.

So $120 for the first 4, $150 for the second 4. $270 I can still sleep at night. Won't be great sleep but… maybe I can make a sunset scene for that or something , lol…

Thanks again.

Anyone installed these directly to drywall without cans? I know I am supposed to get canless slim ones but those are never on deal and this is less than half their price.

I kind of regret purchasing these. They're way overpriced vs Amazon Basics lights that connect to Alexa with no additional hardware, unlike these (Hue Bridge hard wired to router required)

Not really true. Half of the house has Hue bulbs, but is all connected via Home Assistant (I don't own a Hue bridge at all). Hue is just Zigbee (whatever Zigbee hub you use obviously is going need to support the device for it to work so YMMV).

Cans are like $10 and will prevent your house from burning down. Being that cheap is not worth your life.

It is not about $10 can. It is about putting them in retrofit manner. I dont know how to put them without attic access.

Do these lights use zigbee protocol? Or some other proprietary protocol?

Can these be used for outdoor lighting, like for the patio?
