I will be a differing voice and say that primarily for kids, the non-air iPad is better value.
For most people, iPad is a toy for entertainment; you consume content with it.

Some people draw with one, some people edit photos and some replace their laptops with one… but mostly, people use them to surf the web, email, play games, and watch movies. And for that, it doesn't matter much whether you use the $250 or $999 iPad.

Have this. It's great for most things and spec-wise it fits the bill. I just wish it had the landscape front camera as I use it 2x/week for Zoom meetings.

Says GPS, but pretty sure that's only on the Cellular models, not the Wifi models.

Another point to add is that this has the M1 processor, which will support the upcoming AI features (Apple Intelligence) which Apple will roll out, while the base iPad won't.

iPad newbie here. Is the 10.9 air worth the extra money compared to the regular 10.9? (Primarily for kids)(And veteran, so the regular 10.9 is $250)
Get the kids a regular IPad. The 10.9 version is quite nice and get a rugged case.

Thank you for your service.

Glad to see a deal I can do a trade-in with. Got $165 for my iPad 9th gen. About what I would have gotten on ebay.
Yup returned the Walmart one I got last week to buy from BB and trade in my 9th gen

Although my 9th gen is still a perfectly good device, my justifications to myself are: Originally paid $249 and getting $165 trade-in, I got a free unclaimed Pencil 2nd gen from my work's lost-and-found that can't be used on my current ipad, I want to use the AI features when they come out, USB-C, it's blue.

I price-matched this at Target, but I'm seriously considering returning it and picking up the M2 version on Apple's Student Discount deal:
64GB M1 - $399
128GB M2 - $549 - $100 gift card = $449
Seems like double the storage plus the faster processor would be worth the $50.

I'm set to travel internationally with 3 young kids (4 to 6o). Honestly, I'm tempted to buy 3x of the cheap Amazon Fire 7 16gb for 55$ which includes the case and a 2yr warranty to replace it if it gets broken. I'd still spend 165$ and have less fights during the long flights and airport layovers on what content to put on. But I also know that those tablets are painfully basic and sluggish, not to mention only 16gb space.

Anyone ever contemplated to go down this route instead of an iPad? I have an ancient iPad Air 1st gen 32gb currently on iOS 12.5.7. It is ok for kids to use basic preschooler level apps on but the YouTube app itself has stopped working because it doesn't support the old iOS.

Edit: LOL, my current iPad gets 15$ in trade in value. hahaha.

I bought the M2 Air 6th Gen today for $549 with the $100 gift card. The tax rate was calculated for $449 also. Replacing an Air 3 which I'm giving to my son. Much better deal in my opinion than the 5th Gen for $399. Also got the new/open box Magic Keyboard for half price on Woot to go with it. It's more than enough for what I need it for. But I keep iPads 5+ years.
