Generally I'd say "no"

This is a brad nailer so the nails are not really strong enough for applications needing strong holds. This is more to hold thin/weak wood. I use these when putting up trim molding and the like.

You'd need at least a "finish" nailer for applications where the nails are actually there as a permament and strong hold. Finish nails are generally 16 guage as opposed to the 18 guage of a brad nail.

But for me personally, for an outdoor fence, if it's a strong structural hold I needed I would use real nails, not a brad/finish.

I'm not sure of the durability of brad or finish nails out in the outdoor elements. Not sure they are stainless or something that won't corrode.
The reviews are solid. This is the old Hitachi gun. I've worked around professional framing crews, and at least 15 years ago they were all running Hitachis, Paslodes, and Sencos. Nobody was running Ridgid (but plumbers love Ridgid pipe threaders and snakes). I have mainly Ridgid battery tools, but Hitachi (Metabo HPT) almost always wins in the nailer shooutouts.

I've had this nailer (Hitachi version) for about 7-8 years. I remodel/flip houses so I use it frequently with trim/moulding and cabinets. Honestly don't remember ever having a jammed nail. Most bad reviews I'm guessing are user error from DIYers/weekend warriors. This is one of the best "bang for your buck" nailers out there. You won't regret buying this especially at this price.

Wow! That's almost too cheap not to buy even though I've got an 18 gauge.

My Porter & Cable nailer died on me 2 days ago as I tacked the 1st nail of a 12 foot piece of trim... now I'm stuck with one end attached and no way to secure the rest of it (glue already applied).... crap, gotta call the wife to stand and hold the other end while I scream and yell at my nailer.

I went to Lowes to get this one as a replacement but the reviews were iffy.

As un-luck would have it, my compressor tank also had an air leak in one of the welds so it was leaking air. Still holding good enough to work, but compressor was running almost constantly because of the hole.

So I ended up going to Home Depot and getting a Ridgid combo back (pancake compressor, staple gun, brad gun, finish gun) instead. I figured I needed a new brad nailer and compressor anyways, so this option ended up getting me a finish nailer and staple gun for about $20 additional each, so seemed like a fair deal to me.

Good deal on a cheap brad nailer if you just need something quick and cheap though. If I didn't need a new compressor as well, I probably would have gotten this since I don't use it very much.

Not really as Brad nails heads are to thin for longevity but Brad nails do come in galvanized

I've used short stainless ring shank nails in a framing nailer for that.

This is the framing nailer I have:

It has been on sale at this price before but I think this is a pretty good deal and I'll be picking one up. Now all I need is a compressor LOL. I was debating getting the ryobi $190 brad nailer and 3 battery combo but I think this deal is the decider that'll make me go air powered

The reviews from lowes on this brad nailer are 4.6 out of 5 stars, where did you see bad reviews?

I was debating getting the Ridigid combo or the Kobalt version (which is apparently the same product, made at the same factory) but I figure that nailers that come with those combo packs probably aren't as good as this one.

FYI don't forget to register your Ridgid for LSA

The Metabo HPT "The Tank" is an amazing pancake compressor if you decide to go that direction.

You could maybe use it to hold the pickets in place so you can screw them in after. 18GA wouldn't hold for long though.
