That's actually a pro in my book. I nevered need a smart monitor before, don't need it now.
I had the one with smart features and returned it cause they annoyed me. IMO if I wanted the smart features, I'd buy a TV I now have the 32" Alienware 4K OLED and love it.

It's great! You just have to be cautious of possible burn in.
Is it really? Any firsthand experience with it? I have the non OLED model from a year or two back and it's a pain to read text on. I really want to upgrade to an OLED just for this reason… I don't even care for the 49" anymore.

I'm not an expert, but look at the Neo G9, e.g., https://www.xda-developers.com/sa...s-oled-g9/

Not the OP and I have no experience, but from my research, OLED isn't great for productivity due to blurry text. See the part about the Neo and text clarity below.

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/re...sc-s49cg95

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 combines fantastic gaming performance and outstanding picture quality, and it improves on other QD-OLED monitors, like the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8/G85SB S34BG85, by introducing a 240Hz refresh rate. The QD-OLED panel is a nice improvement over the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9/G95NA S49AG95 as well. However, considering the Neo G9 doesn't have the same risk of burn-in and text clarity issues, it's still the better choice for productivity, and it also gets brighter in SDR. If you need the best of the best and like the super ultrawide format to see more of your game at once, you won't be disappointed with the OLED G9.

I have 3 of these here on my office. I use powertools to split the screens so each monitor is pretty much 2 normal monitors without a border in the middle. 2 are stacked, and then one to my left.

One of the monitors has the same charting software that is up 9 hours a day with the entire border never changing and I cannot see any burn-in whatsoever.

Got the other with smart features for the same price, so I can't complain. At the moment, I haven't used them, not a big deal. But if it's for a PC, you will have them if you want them with your OS. That's on the side. This monitor is amazing. No buyer's remorse at all.

I didn't realize OLED could be so dim, why only 200-250nits?

I don't see any issues using this for productivity. I picked up an open box of this for $780 and have been using it for a couple weeks now.

I think the text issue is overblown, especially at the distance you would ideally use a monitor of this size and curvature at. I have a 30" deep desk, and an articulated keyboard tray between me and the display. The screen fills your field of view comfortably and the text reads well at this distance.

Regarding the possibility of burn-in, I'm happy to take that risk for the health benefits to my vision. I'm an artist and value the accurate color reproduction and strong contrast ratio without having to torch my eyes with the high brightness of non-oled displays. If you don't think Samsung's built in pixel shift routine will protect the pixels, you could easily Autohotkey a script to regularly move your windows more aggressively. At 49" and over 5k horizontal resolution, you have plenty of room to offset apps and equalize pixel usage.

If I only get a couple years out of it, I'd still consider that a win for the comfort, quality, and health benefits.

Speaking of, we currently have a 43" older 4K TV on a swivel mount in our kitchen used as a display for a small Windows 10 based HTPC, and its both the most frequently used PC for shopping Amazon, browsing web, light gaming by kids, etc and also serves as our TV for consuming youtube/plex/etc.

I've been considering upgrading it to a monitor instead.

Any recommendations? Ultra wide would take advantage of the space, as our 43" TV is about the max size that will fit vertically in the space, but width is virtually unlimited.

But because we swivel the device, I was also thinking a slightly curved display might make sense.

If I just would have waited. Have the pre OLED version, and love it. I hear not as good for gaming as one might think, but for my use this form factor is fantastic.

It's all fun and games until one part of the beautiful screen goes dark or starts to flicker... I tossed my 49" just over a year because of a flicker.
I'm not bashing this model - But there is some security in 3 smaller screens.

I have had this monitor for a few months now. Its been great so far. Good colors, contrast, smoothness, gaming, and for multitasking. I have not experienced any burn ins as of yet and hoping it won't be an issue.

The one downside I could see people not liking this monitor for is text clarity. I come from a 32in 4k ips monitor and the text clarity is noticeably worse in comparison to my 32in 4k ips monitor. This could be a big turn off for some. I was at first pretty annoyed by it but eventually my eyes got used to it and am ok with it now.

If it's for your kitchen, don't by an OLED monitor. If you're only watching TV on it, don't by any type of ultrawide either - just get a standard 16x9 monitor/tv as that's the aspect ratio that's broadcast on television/streaming apps for the most part.

Thanks, its half and half, watch TV with meals, but otherwise its the most used computer in the house, even do taxes on it! Big Grin

I offered for example a while back to just replace the HTPC with a firestick and there were threats of rioting!
