I've been waiting for these to drop back down. This looks like the lowest price in the past 1-2 years and same price about 2 months ago

Just be aware that Hue uses its own proprietary dimmer so you can't interchange these with other bulbs on a standard dimmer switch.

So is this used with the hue hub or is it something else? I thought the hue was a zigbee based system .

Really solid deal - we have 11 of these in our house, and about a dozen bulbs. We leave our light switches on almost always and utilize Alexa to set each room to preset modes we created (TV Mode, Nighttime TV mode, Sunrise / Sunset to wake and sleep, etc).

Be aware that if you don't have current down lights, you will need to run wiring. Converting old can lights to slim wafers also may take additional work, or you may get the retrofit ones that can save a little bit of trouble (but isn't the deal here). Needless to say, do some googling on what you want to do before buying, but these things are awesome.

My can lights are slim with a plug running to a box and then to a junction box. The listing shows these lights have a screw in bulb base for wiring. I'm guessing I'd need to do some retrofitting to make them work?

I think Philips has a slim version that would work for your situation. Pricey though.

You need the Hue 5/6in Slim. They're $70 a pop but are great. Very easy to connect. You can daisy chain them, so plan it out to limit running wires.

Not proprietary at all, however you're right about the dimmer. No smart lights will work with standard dumb dimmers though. These will work with any correctly setup smart home dimmers and a user that knows what they're doing.

Yes with the hub and yes it's zigbee; also could use BT but you'd be wasting money buying Hue in that case, IMO.
