according to the reviews, the router is accessible from the public WAN and login is http and you can't enable https or disable external access, so long story short:

every time you login into the router, if anyone finds your modem IP from a service like shodan, they will see your password in clear text

Netgear devices are well known for security problems so I'm not surprised.
