A few days ago the same laptop but with R5 8640HS and 512GB was $450. https://slickdeals.net/f/17843223/

The screen is probably the same 72% sRGB.

I did say it was R5. But it has 75% of the multi core and GPU power for gamers and programmers. Most people wouldn't notice a difference for average web browsing and media consumption.

I noticed that Intel counterpart always have better screen. Manufactures need to start giving AMD some love

Spec sheets for both the R5 and R7 of this Envy list the screen as 300 nits, 62.5% sRGB. I purchased an open box excellent of the R5 for $395; it was in like-new condition with 11 months left on warranty. Cheers

Great laptop. I got it from BB for the same price, had to return it because the amount of RAM wasn't sufficient and it's not upgradeable. Good for browsing, video, office stuff and light gaming.

The display is really the weak point on these. I know because I have one.

Yes it's really dull. I also found the speakers really weak. I ended up returning it despite being happy with the rest of the specs.

The design is very reminiscent of the older design of the Spectre series (when it was more traditional, before adopting chamfered corners and non-traditional materials, etc.). Very tempting for me as I've got an 8-year old Spectre I'm finally set to upgrade (having recently cracked the digitizer).

Good luck!

What'd you go with as an alternative? I'm good with rest of the specs but feel like I'd have the same opinion. Thx

edit: This is showing $720 now and the open-box 14" options are all $6XX in my area. Considerations below still apply though.

If I were looking at this, I'd be tempted to check out the open-box selection of the 16" version in-store for $6XX. There seems to be a selection of them at the stores around here. It's not so easy to find a 15"+ screen windows laptop that doesn't have a number pad and either offset typing or offset trackpad (hate 'em both). I wouldn't get an BB open-box item online though, I've returned a computer in perfect condition and watched them remove it and the power-supply and chuck the rest of the packaging in the trash for who-knows-what reason. If they ship it when they resell it, it just gets tossed in a random box with some bubble wrap.
