This is an interesting and unusual ratchet/socket set because it's a small 1-ratchet set that seems like it would be ideal for household use, but it's a lot of deep sockets, which are more commonly needed for machinery, cars, lug nuts. In fact, every socket size is duplicated (regular and deep). The Kobalt ratchet and 6-point sockets are good quality, but if you're working on machinery and cars you'll probably want a bigger set with a 1/2" ratchet.

The previous complaint about the Kobalt cases are very common. Brittle plastic and the sockets jammed into the lid are a pain.

For my money, for a compact set for the household, I'd choose the Husky 94-piece for on sale for $49.97. The ratchets are not quite the same spec as Kobalt but pretty close, and there only a dozen deep sockets (the bigger sizes), but the set has a more complete range of sockets (from 4mm and 5/32" up to 1"), and a useful magnetic bit driver, and a durable and better-designed case where everything sits neatly on one side.

The amount of alerts I get for kobalt socket sets on deal alert is rediculous. Just stop posting these…. The socket sets are literally always the lower price, maybe start alerting me when they're actually the "normal" price

So is this a good really good deal? I personally don't have any Kobalt tools.

That craftsman set is junk, a lot less sockets and a bunch of junk bits to drive up the piece count.

I mean, that's apples and oranges in every way.

The Kobalt and the Husky are toolsets that include ratchets and sockets. They are what I'd call all-purpose household sets, from good brands with good enough quality to last a lifetime but not industrial strength (literally).

The Milwaukee Shockwave set is a whole different class. Those are premium industrial quality impact sockets that can handle much greater torque than the other brands. Those are for people who work with tools all day and are willing to pay more than twice as much for the best. It's also just a socket set -- no ratchet.
