Legion go is only $30 more. Also this chipset is well not optimized and struggles on simple games like stray. This chipset isnt as good as amds apu

Just chiming in because people always talk about this device compared to others in the same space.

I own both a Claw and a ROG Ally Z1E (that's modded). The Claw not a bad device. It's just not up to par with similar devices in the same space for the price.

It feels great. Runs pretty much anything that doesn't require high performance GPU.

I would tell anyone to go for an Ally Z1E in the used/Open Box market before looking at the Claw. Even this tier of Claw would be only be worth it at <$300.

my $0.02.

Definitely go with legion over this, especially at $470 on Amazon right now.

This claw was already $400 few weeks ago on here so it will be even cheaper in coming months, too much competition and nothing really stands out about the claw other than emulation

I'm in PC gaming and handheld PC gaming groups on social media and such. Yeah, people are toxic and blah blah blah so they love to trash on anything they just don't like there in the first. And the MSI Claw had an admittedly crappy launch. But I actually own one and use it regularly and it's not the trash handheld gaming PC that all these people make it out to be. It functions and plays everything I have put on it so far just fine. It's just not as good when compared to others in the market for relatively the same price and I'm willing to say that and let people know.

There's a strict divide between those that recommend the Ally and those that recommend the Legion. Just wait, some will recommend one, some the other and the Ally fans will immediately turn toxic. Then the steam deck fans come in and will be just a little less toxic than the Ally fans. The Legion fans know that both groups think poorly of them and will shrink into the shadows. The Claw fans don't exist.

A) I don't own a Legion Go so I have no real room to comment on it. On paper it has a lot of similar specs to the Ally but after owning the Ally I don't really see myself owning a handheld large than that. Also (on paper) I'm not a big fan of its display lacking VRR but the display is actually docked sideways and owners claim that the lack of VRR doesn't bother them.

B) the MSI Claw is closer in form and size to the Ally so it's a closer comparison between those than it is against the Legion Go. I believe I read that the Claw and Ally displays are the exact same (but I could be misinformed) so that's about the only true similarity between them as far as hardware goes.

And again, it's *my* thoughts and opinions on comparing just these two devices and which *I* would recommend all factors considered between them.

MSI could have possibly made inroads if they were able to differentiate themselves from the Go or Ally.

But with 16GB RAM (wasn't there a 32GB model in preproduction?) , an "ips level" screen (whatever the hell that means), and a worse APU, the Claw just isn't going to cut it at around the same price.

It has one advantage over the Ally in that it has a usb4 port for expansion, so a non-proprietary eGPU can be used.

It probably has better battery life and is more portable than the Go… but I typically dock my Go with my eGPU and only occasionally do portable gaming. The Go is good enough for my portable needs as long as I have an external pack.

Good price for a second device...

Only buy if you already have an Ally or Go... and if you have money to blow and want to be disappointed. Should even buy a Z1 Ally (Non Xtreme) over this one. 🤣

The Claw has Thunderbolt for eGPUs, which is a plus. The Original Ally needs a proprietary bs adapter.

PS: The Ultra 5 version is better the better buy IMHO (and others, just google it). It performs better at lower tdp because of less cores. Kind of what you want in a handheld. The graphics card is the same for both.
