Press & Hold to confirm you are a human (and not a bot).
I tried 10 times, but failed. Am I not a human? Foolish website.

This seems tempting .repurposing speakers to our living room to replace my soundbar. Waiting for a Denon s760h refurb as it's gone down to $230. Would this be a better option? I've heard Onkyo isn't super reliable

Care to share a link for the Denon s760h refurb for $230, I've got an Onkyo receiver and have had nothing but problems. Thanks

The Onkyo TX-SR3100 is an excellent value for $200. I paid $269 a year ago.

It's packed with features like Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and customizable speaker settings, making it perfect for a budget-friendly home theater. I'm using it with 8-ohm Paradigm Monitor SE Atom speakers in a 3.1.2 configuration—front LCR speakers, height speakers, and an SVS PB-1000 subwoofer—and it's working great even without rear channels. This system delivers performance well above its price point, proving you don't need to spend a fortune for great sound. Highly recommended for anyone building an affordable yet impressive setup!

Can anyone recommend a good "starter" set of home theater speakers for this receiver? Coming from built in TV speakers so anything will be an upgrade.

Thanks for the response! Should I start with just a pair of these or is a center channel + sub also a requirement? Also, can I pair any sub with these set of speakers?

I bought this a few weeks ago for the same price. It is no doubt a bare bones receiver but does the job. It is HDMI 2.1a 8k capable thus future proof, decodes surround especially Dolby Atmos (5.1 or 3.1.2 only but sounds amazing btw), and 80w/channel is plenty of power for the volume that I need for music and movies. My only gripes are with HDMI switching which always requires the receiver to be on if switching ports and the response time with eARC with new or changing signals is about 2s for audio to kick in which is annoying. For movies, I can deal with it but at least for my Tivo, where I fast forward through commercials, the loss of audio signal is enough that when I hit play again I don't hear sound for 2s. So I just use my TV speakers for Tivo watching which is fine. Doesn't have WIFI or ethernet so USB firmware update only which is fine by me. I don't want to have all my electronics connected sending messages to lord knows what. It does have bluetooth which is all I need for streaming audio from my phone. All in all, I still recommend it and at this price point, I don't regret the purchase if you can deal with the HDMI and response time issues mentioned above.
