I love these games and would love to play them on the switch, but that price is wild.

Be aware that it seems to require ~180 MB or larger downloads for each game, and internet has to be connected to play any of them. That makes it more of a digital game than a physical game, imo.

This physical edition of the game DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY OF THESE GAMES READY TO PLAY!!! It requires an internet connection to download over 177.7 MB for each one of the SIX games. Making the PHYSICAL unplayable w/o an internet connection. Completely disappointed with this purchase. May as well buy the digital. You'll get coins that way. This copy doesn't even have the decency to award gold coins for future purchases. Why would anyone purchase a physical copy that requires internet every time you play it?

3.0 out of 5 stars I don't have a problem with the games, but I feel the need to say something....

If you want to know what I think of the games themselves, I would give this collection five stars. I think this is the better portion of the series history these days (I'm not very big on VII, VIII, IX or X anymore) but I feel the need to say something about this release and SquareEnix in general.
Look, if you were unable to buy the physical copies of this game that were released before (more on this in a second) I'm glad you were able to finally obtain a copy of this. This is especially important given the planned PS4 Japanese release that WASN'T posted on SE's website (the one that didn't have all the extras and didn't cost an arm and a leg) was canned before the pre-ordering got to far along. That was an especially dirty move that made the PS4 version pretty limited. However, I'm sorry, I want to call out Square Enix's obvious double dipping here. You couldn't have just released this stateside back when the Japanese physicals were released about over a year ago? I seriously think they're just trying to milk people with OCD that already bought the import back then and feel compelled to get this as well. I mean I get I'm part of the problem because I felt to need to do that, but could you guys just, oh, I don't know, stop? It's Final Fantasy (mainline Final Fantasy games) and it would have sold well at that earlier point reguardless.
Frankly I find the whole thing slimy. Again, I'm glad those who couldn't import it (or didn't want to pay the increased prices scalpers were charging for it if you couldn't order from one of the foreign sources/sites charging the original retail price) but yeah, just a little irritated that they couldn't make buying this easy for such a prolonged period of time. I'm sure some may wonder if things like the increased price annoys me (the games are no longer nearly as long as they were thanks to fast forward options and the cheat menus - e.g. cutting out level grinding ISN'T a minus in my book) but that's small fries to me in the scheme of things. Still, while I'll never grow tired of SE complaining some huge game of theirs's "fell below expectations" when it comes to sales, it's honestly their smaller projects like this (Star Ocean 2, SaGa Frontier Remastered, Live A Live, etc.) that I'm ultimately after, so in the end I'll partake - while still pointing out all the BS that surrounded this one/release.

Also, this appears to be the European release.
I also bought the original Plants VS. Zombies for iOS, PAID, and that doesn't work on new iPhone architectures either since it was practically abandoned for the ad-riddled PvZ2.
From a review of FF1: ''Overall, I must say I'm quite pleasantly surprised with Final Fantasy. I came in with the lowest of low expectations, and found myself blown away by the scope and depth that the development team managed to create on limited hardware in 1987. Despite the many flaws, I would argue that this title is easily deserving of the legacy carried forward by its namesake franchise. I would also argue that this must be one of the most influential video games ever created, and that it should not be possible to understand the early history of gaming without having played this title. It is hands down the most unexpectedly great game of all the retro games I've played so far. Final Fantasy is far from perfect, but so is everything revolutionary in its domain. It's a beautiful, memorable, ambitious project, and you should give it a chance, if you haven't already.''
The best 8-bit console RPG by far was Phantasy Star imo, on the Sega Master System. Zelda 1 and 2 on the NES were excellent, albeit more "action/RPG." I also enjoyed Dragon Warrior.
My favorites of all time are Bard's Tale 1, 2 and 3. I believe there is a modern PC remake available.
