In my experience (3 claims with Duracell over about ~15 years): They don't want the product back, they want a picture of the leaking battery, the damage it caused, and the address to mail a check to.

I had one leak inside of a wireless Apple keyboard (~$100), a digital camera (~$250) and a polaroid camera (~$150); it's unfortunate that these happened.. but this is out of MANY devices I've used batteries in. Kirkland batteries leaked much more frequently.

In the above 3 cases, I emailed duracell, they asked for photos of the damage & the batteries, the product and price paid, and where to mail a check to. They didn't ask me for the products back (batteries or damaged products) and simply mailed a check for the full value. It keeps me going back to Duracell, which I know sounds stupid because they ruined 3 devices.. but they came through and did better than I expected each time.

Duracell guarantees its batteries against defects in materials and workmanship. Should any device be damaged due to a battery defect, we will repair or replace it at our option. Leaking battery and damaged device must be provided as proof of claim.

Ship the battery to manufacturer if leaks doesn't sound very cost effective.

No disrespect meant because I bought these recently but replacing a 50 cent battery is not the issue. I try to never leave any batteries in devices that I'm not using regularly (i.e., AC remote in the winter).

I've heard this, but my experience (and reading others online) are that the Kirkland ones are just more prone to leaking. I've purchased considerably more Duracell than Kirkland, but Kirkland have leaked on me even more. I also don't know what the 'guarantee' on Kirkland is (whereas Duracell always came through); the website just says "If you're not completely satisfied with this Kirkland Signature product, your money will be refunded."

I'm a big costco/kirkland fan, but their batteries are one thing I'll never buy again

because AA are used in many devices but 9v are basically used in smoke alarms and old timey transistor radios.
